I was in Target on Sat. & noticed Sony still makes the Walkman. It looked pretty nice, too. AM/FM digital tuning & full-function cassette player for only $30. I'm tempted to buy one. Too bad Target doesn't sell any decent blank tapes anymore.

Yea, I saw them at a Best Buy in Anchorage too. I almost got one except for already having nine Sony models of vintage type.

Now, Scorpion, that is interesting!! I will try to find out what model that is - perhaps you noticed?

Is it this one (http://www.target.com/Sony-Digital-Radio-Cassette-Walkman/dp/B0001MMH9E/sr=1-12/qid=1230031533/ref=sr_1_12/183-7634199-4428523?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3Awalkman&page=1)?

They also list this (http://www.target.com/Teac-CD-Cassette-Combination-AD-500/dp/B00001OPJQ/sr=1-13/qid=1230031738/ref=sr_1_13/183-7634199-4428523?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3Acassette&page=1) on their website. I don't know how good it is though.

Not very good reviews, but what do you want for $29? *scratchchin*

As with most electronics the quality of Cassette Walkman have decreased. This is the only product that I knowingly buy that is made in China. I have many tapes that I listen to for health reasons and have no other choice but to buy these products, actually feel guilty that I buy them. I get probably 2 a year. They do not last long. The ear phones go first, then the cassette. No wonder---- China could care less that we are being buried by plastics, quality is not a priority with these imports.

Why didn't they add what features this cassette walkman has?
How do I know if its what I need? Does it have bass boost?

If you need bass boost then this is probably not for you, stick with the Honda Civic 4 cylinder with the coffee can muffler, trunk full of sub woofers and the 200mph wing on the trunk. *grin*

I've always found headphones/earbuds that come with walkmans/MP3 players to be next to worthless & have always used studio-style headphones. I currently use a pair of AKG headphones that work great.

Sony is clearly going the way of the solid state device. They had put their money on the MD but that pretty much fissled. Take note that this is the only consumer model they make for cassette anymore and next year or the next that will be history too. If mp3 player are all that are left to us- who's fault is it? We are using Compact Flash memory units in the radio studio but they are not very impressive lacking professional remote interface. Plus they cost a lot. I wonder what the next great thing will be?

Well I can tell you I'm not happy with their newest mini-cassette recorder, but...
