So, how do you avoid the WAF of collecting gear? I keep mine at work. It's nice having a big cubicle, an understanding boss, and with plenty of desk space. I rearranged awhile back, and this is the system-side (notice the shelves of tapes in the top right corner):

And the other side ...

And the hidden under-desk stash of receivers ...

Honestly the wife-person doesn't mind so much since she never sees the stuff. It avoids 'conflict".
How do you deal with the WAF?

I have the issue of PAF..Parental Acceptance Factor..
With my mother, anything that is electronic already scores on the NEGATIVE side of the scale....my enthusiasm and it;s size (usually related :D) bring it further down...
I deal with it by hiding.
Lots and lots of hiding.....
And she;s forgetful....so I just say "I've had that since NOVEMBER or somesuch....":D
I know I'm wrong and evil, but it's the only way to go.

My Equipment gets the WAF even though it's a total mix of brands, colours, sizes, interfaces and purposes.
18 sources, 1 preamp, 2 powers, 2 headphones, 1 headspeaker, 2 speakers, 4 SB's, 2 Mic's, 1 studio mixer, several MC's, R2R, TT, MD, DAT, PC, TV, VHS, DVD, CD, FM....................well...............just about anything.
She uses it.
She claims she doesn't understand the need of it, but deep in her heart, I know she likes it.
Mainly because quality and matching are THE keywords.

Mine currently only has to meet the MAF Me acceptance factor. :D Although I wish there would be a BAF - Boss Acceptance factor, but I know that will not happen.

The ugly bits have to be hidden away in cabinets and the whole lot has to be in a less conspicuous location*?conf?
Never mind the valves need cooling and the sound needs to have optimal speaker placement etc.
Oh well, I could always put my foot down? - yeah right!*wflag*

Not having an S/O let alone a W makes things a little easier, Dale the roomie just says, "There's a big box on the porch, you gonna open it out there or in here"? Meaning, is there even the slightest possiblity of bugs or other nasties inside the box*yikes*. I find his thinking I have poor taste in what I'll drag into the house, halarious and, somewhat true*eyepop*
edit: Proof, yes I just lost on this one I'm the bidder Blue (70)http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=360054022356&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=023
Now for future info, some folks posted that there very well may be critters in this dusty thing, I however, have info from other sources that it's better to have one unmolested, means less likelyhood of magic smoke has come out recently,YMMV of course.

I've just found and seen these nice pics again.
So do you still have 11 decks at work?

14. Honest, I have no idea where they come from, how they get here, or any other knowledge that I can avow. I think they multiply at night like bunnies. At least they have good brand-loyalty for bunnies....

Honestly, he's down with it. They all joke each time that the power goes out downtown that I turned 'em all on at once. He knows I have then, but since I don't work on them during work hours or let them cause a distraction, he's okay. He's an audio guy too on the cheaper-sense, but he's not a TH-type.

I am lucky I don't work in an office.
This is what my cubicle would probably look like.
