I found this on ebay how does it work? Is that a spindle on top?

The spindle is used to put there the hub reel and rotate the reel by hand, like this one:

It looks a little small and the description says "up to 7" reels" because with bigger reels, the magnetic field won't go until the most external part of the tape. In the pic I posted, is a bulk eraser capable "up to 10.5" reels".

The unique bulk eraser I used is the Teac E-2 showed in my prev. pic... so don't know. I think the only parameter that is important is how powerful is the eraser, and is measured in Oesterds.

Agreed, the power is the important part, and make sure all recorded media is several feet away when using it. I go one step further and use it outside, I don't like having it on around delicate phono cartridge magnets and pre-amp transformers, but, that's just me.

Keep in mind that more powerful ones are needed if you plan on bulk erasing metal cassette's too. You can spend $15 to $1,000's.
