Sounds like a nice pickup. I avoid most of the thrifts here because the pricing is usually outrageous. They want .99 cent per tape for used tapes at most places. :(

Nice looking Denon Deck there too. If it works you can't beat the price. )dance(

Hey, we got more smileys! Yippee.

IMHO, Denon made the best decks of the BPC era. I never cared for their silver-era stuff, but I now have 4 decks from this period. My two DRM-540's are just great as basic decks, and I use a DR-M20 at work.

I've got a Denon DR-M22 with the wood grain side panels. It is nothing special but it matches stack of Denon gear I have. :)

And yes there are some new smilies to use. !jam!

Nice deck, but that deck DOES look like it's seen better days. Of course I'm sure that at least part of that is camera flash light, which tends to amplify and exaggerate any flaws. But hey. If it works. Good score!

Now my issue is that I have a "dead" DRM-740. It's in near immaculate condition. Everything lights up and works on it. Except for one channel has some sort of buzzing sound that blocks most of the sound on the playback. Have no idea what is causing it. So I don't know what I'm going to do with it. Even working, those decks aren't worth much. If I fix it, it's going to cost at least double or triple what I could sell it for. I'll probably do that and just keep it as a spare or backup deck investment. I just need to find the nearest authorized Denon service center. It would be a shame to gut out an otherwise flawless machine.

It's the flash. The deck is actually in pretty nice condition.

Your DRM-740 is worth saving. It's probably a dead/failing transistor or cap in one of the channels. They're pretty simple inside. Yes, they're not superb-technical marvels, but they are nice decks.

Yea, duh-on-me. That's the one. Take Me to the River was the big hit off of it. Which album has Up All Night?

I actually don't know which album that's from.

I cleaned and lubed the Denon deck up today. Sounds superb and looks brand new after a few wipe downs. This one'll be a keeper. Might even move it into my home-den-stack.

Thanks Mr.Lin. What other Talking Heads is a must-have for a record/tape collection?

Which album has Up All Night?

I think the correct title is 'Stay Up Late' and it is from Little Creatures

I would say: All of them! - but Stop Making Sense (live) is a good starter.

This Denon looks nice. Can we have a pic after the cleaning?

Sure. Here's the cleaned-up pic, sitting atop a nice Akai HX-R5 that's missing just the play button covers (if anyone knows a source, PM me please!) and a Nakamichi 581.

My favorites aside from the one you have are:

Talking Heads: 77

Fear of Music

Remain in Light

But close652 is right, I've never heard one I didn't like.

That's a nice cassette deck collection you've got there. How's the Nak sound?

Yup, it's at work (so far). It's one way to have less impact on the WAF since she doesn't see the other side of the cubicle which has 8 more decks plus two in a drawer. :D

It's great. It has an issue with calibrating tapes using it's reference tones (which I'm working on) but otherwise it plays great.

That's cool. Before I worked in the office I used to have a complete system at work, but now I don't have any tunes at work. :(

My boss is understanding. When I first started I brought in this little am/fm clock radio. He told me I needed to keep it low, even though I had it all the way down AND sat in a bank of 9 empty cubicles all alone. So I brought in a tape deck to listen to. But it wouldn't go loud enough alone. So I got a receiver, and then cycled thru a few different vintage receivers. Now I've got an office stack that looks like this:

http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p141/Scorpion008/DSCN1886.jpg

You know, just in case I want to dub from tape to tape while I process permits. Oh, and the cheesy Sherwood CDP has been upgraded to a Sony CDP that's much superior.

So now I listen thru headphones, I can rock-it when the mood or tune calls for it, and the lil' blinky light on the phone tells me if I'm supposed to do real work ....

Looks good. When my companies distribution center was here in Minnesota I had my office in the distribution center. Now that the DC moved to California and I am up in cubicle hell and I would need to use headphones, so I just took my gear home. :(

Headphones is fine for me. I do most of my work on a PC and very little on the telephone, so I can get into a groove.

I do most of my work on the PC too, but the company would frown if I had gear in my cubicle and probably wouldn't like me using headphones.

I am not much into headphones as they give me a headache in a short period of time. Probably like half an hour or so. Ear buds I can wear for an hour or two then my head starts hurting also.

Unfortunately my listening only happens at home or in the car.
