Has anyone heard the Blue Note 45 rpm reissues? I've been looking at these for a while on Acoustic Sounds. While I'm quite tempted by some of the titles, the idea of flipping sides twice and changing the record once for each album has put me off a bit. Maybe I'm just not enough of a vinyl fundamentalist. Still, I do like the look of these things.

Sounds interesting. The Blue Note stuff usually seems well recorded.
Baby question here ... can anyone verify that there IS a benefit in spreading a LP over two records, and of recording them @ 45rpm? I am told they sound better but, if they do, might this be accounted for by virtue of the fact that greater care will have gone into recording them anyway?

45 RPM vs 33 RPM on a 12" disc is analogous to 3 3/4 vs 7 1/2 IPS on open reel decks. Basically 45 RPM tends to sound a bit cleaner.
As for only two or three tracks per side of 12" disc, this is so that the grooves can have a larger amplitude without bumping into one another (called a locked groove) causing a skip. The louder amplitude when used well can expand dynamic range. The problem is that there are less grooves per radial inch of vinyl so the songs tend to cover more space.
This is also why I love finding 12" 45RPM singles, the sound so clear and sharp.
Hope that helps!

Yes, the 45rpm record will sound better, and yes, these Blue Note 45rpm reissues sound absolutely fantastic. I have a couple by Miles Davis, Bill Evans, and Yamamoto Trio (Girl Talk), and they're all amazing. The only thing not to like about these is the price.
So you don't want to have to get up and flip them over every 15 minutes? Here's an idea: record them onto a cassette! That's what I've started doing.

Plus international postage for me, which for vinyl really adds up fast. Much as I'd like to bag all 25, it's just not going to happen. Still, a couple wouldn't hurt.

Are these reissues not good enough to deserve R2R dubbing?

I see no reason why they shouldn't be. Are you talking expensive, new tape? I haven't dubbed any vinyl yet, and I haven't used my single new RMGI tape. Strictly old, used stock for me until I have got to know my two decks better.
If you go to the Steve Hoffman site, you can link in to the reissues through there. One set is on the label run by Acoustic Sounds, but I just found out that there's also a set coming out on Music Matters.

Oh I misread your question....
I agree there (I'd wondered the same thing), I wouldn't use cassette myself, but it's the format I don't like much. I don't know enough about the sound quality at its best to get into that battle....

Oh I'm sure they are dolph, but please note that I do not have a R2R, unfortunately for me. Otherwise that's what I'd do.
You'll recall I'm currently limited to my lowly Nak BX-1, but that's going to change in a few weeks as it's time for a big upgrade...
