I have quite often in the past bought the odd BASF cassette tapes. It ranged from my first pure chrome tape from the 80s to later just getting their basic type 1 tape. The basic type one tapes I've used were the LH-EI which later became the FE-I tape. I've also bought a few of the later chromes as well. Never used their metal tapes. Anyway I bought a BASF Performance tape off Ebay today. I'd thought I'd try one out. I also found an earlier version of Rad Shacks Concertape which I got one for fun. Anyone ever use that BASF Performance tape?

Only BASF tape I ever used was the "Pro II Chrome". Frankly, I didn't care for it at all. I found it to be a bit hissy and very dropout prone. The internal guide rack was novel. But IMO only served to complicate things and add to the price of the tape.

I'd second Matt. I don't even recall a serious Type-II from them, except maybe a mee-too tape. Their Type-I's seem to be abundant, and they are also so-so. Not high on my list to acquire at all....

Nice looking packaging but I know nothing of the tapes. My only experience was with BASF reel to reel tapes way back when. I didn't like them much either as they were prone to drop outs also. To be fair though the tapes were used when I got them with a reel to reel deck.

I have some BASF tapes and found them quite good with a good mechanism. I have never experienced dropouts. The older type II CR-E II (silver, see picture) is the best, the newer series is not as good as the previous (cca. 1986-87). The yellow LH extra I was an outstanding normal tape, equal to the best TDKs. I don't have any BASF metal tapes. I bought a couple of used ones a week ago, I will record some vinyls this week on them and get back with the results.
