Hello fellow tapers! I just got back from a four day retreat from the desert town of Laughlin, NV. http://www.tapeheads.net/showthread.php?t=190
And as I usually do at the end of the week, just want to take a few minutes to update you all on what's going on.
For starters, this last week, we reached two milestones. First is that membership has now hit a hundred. So thank you all for joining, although many of those people have yet to introduce themselves or say a word otherwise. So let me remind you that passive memberships DO have a shelf life. If 179 days go by and you do not make a post, on the 180'th day, your membership will automatically be cancelled. As I said in a previous bulletin, I know that some people like to join for the information. But surely you can think of something to say at least once in six months time. So if that day comes and you find out that you can no longer access the site, that is why.
Second is that our post count has surpassed the thousand mark. Once again, thank you all for helping continue to build the site. Though the average per-day count is still only in the 30's or so, I am looking forward to resurrecting the "name those tunes" contests. But I won't do that until the site reaches the activity level of a minimum of fifty posts per day for thirty consecutive days.
Because of the above mentioned milestones, and me having been offline for almost four days, I was concerned that it might've been realized that I was gone and all hell would've broke loose with no one watching the site. I was delighted when I got back and saw that not only was it humming along just fine, but that it seemed to have slowed down a bit. So it's a testament to all of you and the respect that you show.
However, because it is growing, I want to make sure that the site is being watched even when I'm not. So that said, I will now be accepting "applications" for Moderator. I am looking at granting two positions that will have access to edit, modify, move, and delete posts should the need come up. Though I should point out that I haven't as of yet had to do much of any of that. I want a couple of people who share my passion and outlook for tape in general and this site in particular; ergo the loyalty. I have two names already in mind. But I want to see if they approach me first after seeing this. I am also open to anyone here applying. So to all, if you are interested, please send me either a PM or an E-mail with your "application" and why you feel you would be a good choice to supervise the site. I am not in any hurry to do this. So I am not setting a deadline for "applications". I'll announce if/when my selection(s) have been made.
This will also free me up to do more promotion and back-end work to further fine tune it.
Which leads me to my last point: a request was made to add more "smilies" to the site to use in the forums. Many other sites do have them and they can be fun to use. However, I did not really have "smilies" in mind when setting up TapeHeads; I seldom ever use them. But a lot of you do.
Well here's the thing. From what I've been able to tell, in order to add them, I have to download them all one by one onto my server and then re-upload them on the back end. That's going to require quite a bit of time on my part. And I want to make sure that any smilies I download do not contain Trojan Horses, Spyware, or any other undesirable side effects. So in other words, you're going to have to live with whatever smilies are available now. I'll work on getting more added in the near future, but don't expect them anytime soon. They weren't a dealbreaker for me. And I hope they won't be for you either. But rest assured. I'll keep you all posted of any changes.
I guess that's about it for tonight. I haven't really done much else to the site since last weeks bulletin. As I always say: please continue to spread the word and get new members in. Keep the participation up. And keep the tape rolling.
