I picked up a Philips CDC 925 5 disk player a while ago.
I use it in the living room at the moment.
It's built like a tank.
It is made in Belgium.
Did Philips make their own units or is this a rebadge ?
I can't seem to find much on the 90's units.
This has a build date of Sept 1992.
Thanks for any info.

PHILIPS did indeed make their own CDPs. all the MAGNAVOX branded ones were in actuality made by PHILIPS. my very first magazine CDP was a MAGNAVOX CDB-486 that was designed and manufactured by PHILIPS. one thing about PHILIPS products seems to be their reliability. that changer works flawlessly to this day despite a preponderance of oily residue all over the inside near the top vent. and it has always been good with tracking any CDR you provide it. it also has a typically PHILIPS swing-arc pick-up which many vintage CDP enthusiasts maintain is supposedly superior to the usual linear-type. still, i was, and still am all the happier to be rid of it in exchange for a PIONEER PD-M6...

Philips were the co-inventers of Cd along with Sony. Sony beat Philips with the first player in the market in 1983, but Philips followed on their heels soon afterwards.
Philips transport mechanisms, were highly regarded from day one, and used by many other manufacturers on very expensive units.

I remember they were a big name in Germany in the 70's,never seen too much of their stuff here except low end electronics.
I have only had one disk it wouldn't read so far.
Anybody else have problems with deluxe editions(Allman Bros-Eat A Peach)?
Other than that issue I guess I'll run it till it breaks.*hope*

The Philips CDB-650 (Belgium made) is one of my favorites. The CDM2/29 laser block tracks well and can read CD-R's. The transport is fully spring suspended so vibration dampening is better than many high-end units like some Sony ES models. Styling is BPC but what the heck, it sounds great!

Untill recently phillips owned marantz.
There high end gear was branded marantz the lower end was magnavox.
As others have said the early phillips players were well respected and many early high end players were based on a phillips transport.

True. I can give the CDB-650's case a sharp tap and the laser will not skip. Most CDP's will skip.
