I just x-fered a pancake of lpr-35 to two 7" reels.
I have not recorded on it yet, but I want to say how nice it packed onto the 7" reels! The pack was so consistent that you cant tell it was spun on @ FF speeds.
I dont know if it has to do w/ my OTARI or the slitting and backcoating of the LPR?
I used red and green TME leader, now what to record???

If it's the Otari then most other backcoated tapes should wind just as nice.
You may also note that there are many different versions of the LPR35, I presume you mean the new RMGi :)
Depending on the production date there are slight differences between the BASF and later Emtec LPR35 tapes, they aquire different BIAS settings and the mid 80's tapes have a lighter brown color.
All of it's just called "LPR35" but LPR35 certainly is not always the same LPR35. *reelspin*

Yep, this is fresh RMGI stock.
It certainly looks different from my old BASF LPR35!

That's some pretty good tape. I take it you read my test report (http://www.tapeheads.net/showthread.php?t=4)on the same tape? And did you buy it from USR (http://www.usrecordingmedia.com)?
I did some recording on mine this weekend. But I didn't do a whole tape, just maybe about 5 or 6 songs. It's a work in progress. Once it's finished, maybe I'll post a play list. And on mine, I put on blue/yellow leaders.

Matt;
your review pushed me to try the lpr. I'll be using it for my teac 2300. the 900 and 911 are reserved for the OTARI.
Yep from USR I had ordered 5 pancake, head & roller cleaner, green & red leader, splicing tape, hold down tape, and a handi-mag
I think Kraftwerk - Man Machine will be the first

If anyone knows of somewhere else to get different coloured leader tape I'd love to know...US Recording won't ship outside of the USA. The local place that I've used only sells white leader tape -- and only in 2500 foot rolls!
Maybe I could trade some white leader for blue and red from someone around here....

There're all type of colors in ebay Germany if you ask for 1/4" wide.
I've BASF leader tape in green, red and blue, but there are also yellow, white, transparent, red+white, blue+white... and a lot of combinations.
To search, use the "worldwide" check option and type "Vorspannband"
Personally I always use green for the side A and red for the side B. Never used the blue... but wanted to buy it anyway for some future use *reelspin*

I really wish they would ship to the UK, The price in dollars to pound would make it very worth while even with import duty, after all they got it from Holland!

I too want to get LPR-35 in pancake form and tranfer it to 7" reels. Unfortunetly, USR dont do 7" pancakes. How does it work putting the pancake on a 10.5 then transfering that to 7"?

Easy,
Step 1:
Mount your metal reel sides to your pancake hub,
Step 2:
Mount your "new" 10.5" reel of LPR-35 on the supply side of your deck.
Step 3:
Mount an empty 7" reel on the take-up side.
Step 4:
Thread, than hit play (To keep an even tape pack)

Looks like your dog has an idea of how it works *lmao* All you need is to add the flanges , lock it onto the 909 and use a 7" reel to take it up. I would think you set the reel size to Large for the weight of the supply side, as the machine really can't sense the 7" take up or why it's being stopped half way through to be cut. Then you have a small reel load left on the supply side to load your second 7" reel. So now you can switch to the Small reel setting.

Thank You

Curious how you would do this on a RT-707 (only accepts 7" reels)?*hope*

In the case of the 707, be creative. I had to.

I haven't done this but have seen a video somewhere of it being done:
1) put your deck horizontal on its back
2) put a "free-wheeling" turntable next to the left of the deck
3) put the pancake on the turntable
4) make sure the height of the turntable/pancake is exactly in line with the guides/heads on the deck
5) thread the tape as normal and begin the transfer
Be prepared to slow the turntable by hand when the 7" reel fills and you stop the deck or you might end up with a rats nest of tape on the floor!
(might be best to do this at play speed rather than FF until you got the hang of it...)
Remember, I haven't done this so proceed at your own risk.*reelspin*

Not sure how much it counts, but I looked after LPR35 pankaces myself for some old reels and here is what I found:
Full Compass - 34.50 + 8.80 (shipping to Colorado with UPS ground)
http://www.fullcompass.com/category/Reel-To-Reel-Tape.html
USR has it for 39.80. +15.70 (shipping to Colorado with UPS ground)
You can also find it on eBay, sold by "splice it" for 35.50 +10.50 shipping.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/RMGI-EMTEC-1-4-x-3600-LPR35-pancake-hub-/300619393760?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item45fe4feae0#ht_531wt_1110
Not to speak bad about USR but for that price Full Compass gives you the tape on a plastic reel 39.95+8.80.
Hope it helps.

OK , this is what I got on RMGI tapes. The company is called sonic-circus, they are an RMGI distributors. I just order 5 pancakes of SM-911 at $27.35 each, same as fullcompass, but gave me free shipping . I asked about LPR-35 pancake($33.50), SM900 pancake ($26.25). His name is David Lyons and the phone number in their website is 802-365-9190. Maybe he will give you free shipping, give him a call. In the website there is not info for 911 or LPR-35, that’s why you need to call him.

Full Compass and Splicit are the two I buy RMGI tape from. USR is way to expensive with shipping especially since I could drive up and pick it up personally when I visit the Martin Guitar factory. But USR doesn't have a storefront. They told me they were on a farm. But in any event Full Compass and Splicit are nice outfits. I'm a lottle put off to USR.
