Despite an almost constant drizzle, 500ft ceiling and grey skies, it was time to get out, stretch the leggers, and walk in the open fresh air. The Mendenhall Glacier always beackons, but alas it was only a cell phone camera that accompanied us....

The glacier as it receeds, from a distance...

Suicide Falls, swollen from the rainfall ...

The wife taking a picture of me taking a picture of the wife, glacier in the background ....

The snow working it's way down the mountains, as it's much colder up there than it is down at sea-level...

My son AJ, always the intrepid explorer, climbing the glacier-sanded-smooth rocks under the visitor's center ....

And the west side of the glacier lake, showing calved ice floating out in the lake and scrub growth slowly rebounding from the glacial era ...

Enjoy!

Nice pics. Nice to get out even if the weather isn't favorable.

What he said! Bbrrr! I thought it was cold here this morning, sure is very pretty country ya got up there *eyepop*.

I still wonder how I would have turned out had I moved there years ago.

Sitka is very much different from Juneau. Right on the ocean, with a dormant vocano off in the distance. Even the trailer courts of rusty old AirStreams have billion dollar views.

You'd have loved it.
