Sunday afternoon and I have enough time time to type this weeks update out before I sit down with Mrs Des to have a lasagne for dinner while watching a movie.
There's not really much to fill you in on as far as updates go, but there are two announcements I'd like to make.
First is the Halloween Picture Contest. The announcement has already been posted for several days here (http://www.tapeheads.net/showthread.php?t=1638).
Halloween is just around the corner and I've put you all to the task of coming up with a Halloween themed "tape" picture that will be posted on the front page as "image of the day" for three days: October 29-31. The winner will receive a free tape from my stash. I guess that means I need to get off my posterior and put up a picture of what I'm offering. So far the number of entries is zero. I would've thought that someone would've come up with something. But we'll see.
The only other change I'm making is again to the user registration requirements.
As you know, unless a new member comes to me recommended from an incumbent TapeHeader, everyone approved becomes a "probationary" member upon initial joining of the site. For more information on that, please see last weeks (http://www.tapeheads.net/showthread.php?t=1591)bulletin.
There is already a standing rule in place that was announced on June 15th (http://www.tapeheads.net/showthread.php?t=192) of this year that all memberships do come with a shelf life of 180 days. If that amount of time goes by and you do not make a post, your membership will automatically be terminated without any pre-emptive warning; ergo you were already warned then and are being notified again today. I don't think that just two posts a year is asking too much from someone who took the trouble to join our community. This site will turn six months old next month and right after Thanksgiving, out will come the pruning shears.
Effective today, I am also placing a mandatory time limit on probationary members. Starting today, all probationaries MUST make a post (to either approve you as a legitimate member where you will be upgraded or delete you as a spammer) within 10 (ten) calendar days of signing up or else you will also have your user account summarily terminated, deleted, disassembled, dislodged, and disconnected.
The probationary members page is taking up too much room on the section of our site that is supposed to show the forum leaders. And unfortunately the software that it runs on does not allow that usergroup to be 'hidden'.
This applies to all members both current and future who are "probationary". Many of you have been sitting there for several weeks or even months now and have yet to make a single contribution to the board.
This rule is effective immediately and the clock is now set at zero but will begin ticking. Every day, starting on October 29th, I will peruse the probationary members list. Any and all that have a join date more than 10 days prior without submitting a message will be deleted. No exceptions to anyone for any reason.
Of course because all probationary members posts must first be moderator approved, anyone who attempts to post a spam type message will be immediately banned without further warning. The same goes for anyone who is now currently active. Posting a spam message is an immediately bannable offense. And the ban will be 100% permanent. Also no exceptions will be made to any person for any reason.
If you just want to be a passive 'lurker', then fine. I don't have a problem with that. This site is open to the public. But if you actually take the trouble to sign up, I expect active participation here. As with the 180 day requirement, if you cannot think of something to contribute just once every six months, then you probably don't belong here anyway. I know that some come to just learn and watch and all and I don't mind. But still....
I guess that's it. It's lasagne time!
Enjoy your stay here and I'll see y'all in a bit.
