Got these at a thrift today....Scotch BX-90 and CX-60
Lemme guess. The BX is an entry-level type 1 and the CX is a mid-to-high grade type 1?
P.S. - Does anyone have a J-card for the CX series tape?

If I recall back to the early 90's, I always thought the BX was replaced by the CX. The reason I think that is because stores like BEST, Target, etc., had the BX cassettes in the blue wrappers, then later, had the CX black wrappers, but no more BX. I may be way off, but I just assumed that because stores had the CX & not the BX anymore.

Quite possible. Yet, I can't help but think the CX's are better than the BX's... for one, the housing seems a little more sturdy, and the "Scotch" branding on the BX's are adhesives...the CX's are not, they are inscribed into the plastic. That doesn't say anything about the formulation of course, the CX could be just a shell upgrade.

I suspect, but do not know for sure, that the BX and CX were respective replacements to the "Highlander" and "XS-I".
Scotch, unlike the likes of TDK and Maxell, never really had a "full line" defined as 6 or more types. So I'm thinking that as far as Scotch goes, the BX was the "entry" tape and the "CX" was the "top of the line".
I've tried the XS-I/CX and actually thought they were pretty decent tapes. Can't say about the one shown above though. The ones I tried were earlier versions.
