I'll admit Im a big fan of IMAX movies and have been going to IMAX theaters since 1985. I keep tabs now and then on what the company puts out in films and try to go to see one when I can. Today I finally saw 'The Dark Knight' in IMAX and thought it was a pretty darn good movie. I went partly because of the hype surrounding the film (its currently #2 on the top ten list) and partly because of the 6 or so sequences that were shot with IMAX cameras. I had to see how a big budget motion picture movie would look like with IMAX cameras used. Something like this has been a VERY long time coming in Hollywood and Im glad to finally see at least someone using this format to shoot parts of a movie. Im wondering if this may be a trial run for other companies to start using IMAX more in films and lead to finally an entire film being shot in this format. The only other movie I saw that was entirely shot in IMAX was years ago around the mid 90s a feature about a early days flyer of planes that delivered mail. I don't recall the name, but it was the first movie to use IMAX. But it wasn't a major motion picture. I think what kicked it off for Dark Knight was all the movies uprezzed to IMAX from 35mm which made movies shown in IMAX viable. The next step would be to shoot in IMAX which is what Dark Knight did. It wasn't a lot of scenes using it, but it did make IMAX viable for using in big budget movies.

Has anyone seen The Dark Knight in IMAX? And do you expect Hollywood to embrace this format for future movies?
