As many of you have probably noticed, I have not been around much in the past weeks.
The reason being that I have had no working computer at home.
Mine finally bit the dust and will run no more. It was a 4 year old HP Pavillion Media Center desktop.
The computer took a shock to the motherboard and was on a downward spiral for the past 18 months.
To replace it, I have gone over to the mac side!
Here's what I am getting tomorrow (bought and paid for, just need to upgrade the RAM)
20'' iMac, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD, Final Cut Express, iWork, a mini DVI to composite/S-Video adapter and the warranty

It's about time you came back. Some of us were starting to wonder. And I know your pain. I'm probably going to have to soon break down and get a new PC. Mine went down and was sent to the shop. It got turned around in one day, but will likely need to be replaced soon.

I also ordered a complete new audio setup, as my MAudio 1010LT will not work with the new mac.
PreSonus Inspire 1394 audio interface
Bias Peak LE6
Bias Deck LE
2 sets of 3' RCA Cables from Monoprice to connect the Inspire to my receiver
a 15' firewire cable to run from the Inspire to my computer.
I also got 2 external hard drives.
A 640GB Western Digital USB2.0 drive to back up my previous computer (got this 2 weeks ago) to back up all of my data.
A LaCie Firewire 800 1TB RAID Array (500GB real space)
And a 10' firewire 800 cable to run it to the computer.
Yes, my father paid for all this except for the Western Digital, which I paid for myself.
What's great is that I am convincing my mother to get me real internet, with her blessing, and not have to use my phone as a modem any longer.
I'll post pix when everything arrives. Which should be within the week

No kiddin!!!
The total cost of all this is about $3300.....NOT a cheap switch at all.
My previous PC was $2000 or so new, but the mac with Final Cut, iWork, and ram was about $2300, so it's about the same basic price, whereas there are a lot of extras in this package that I never got with my old pc.

Nowadays a PC doesn't cost so much. For about $1000 you can get a real beast.

Yeah, I know, but I do not like windows or microsoft, and macs are far more stable, on my expierence.

Well, if the problem is the OS... try Linux, Ubuntu is for humans!!

It's more of hardware/software compatibility.
Practically all I do with computers outside of the internet is audio and a little video....so I doubt that Ubuntu would be the best option. I do have a boot disc from them at home somewhere...

It's great to be computer illiterate. My old one was giving problems, and last year BB ran a little ad on a computer, monitor, and printer for $258.
Does everything I need.

I thought your "significant other" had maybe tied you to the bedposts, stripped you naked, and tortured you within an inch of your life with a jar of peanut butter, a bottle of dark Karo syrup, and an ostrich feather.

Glad that that setup works for you....it really is whatever fits your needs.
Now of course, people always want more, especially when dealing with multimedia, and I had to control the impulses to upgrade and stick to the basic stuff that would get my needs fulfilled....
Interestingly enough, I cna easily add on to the audio interface, as I can daisy-chain up to 4 of them together to get 6 inputs of 24.96 digital audio, which basically tuns my computer into a 16 channel digital audio workstation, exceeding the 12 channel limit of Deck LE and giveing me serious creative ability if I ever decide to take advantage of the direct channel output of my Tascam M-30 mixer...and then add 8 phantom powered microphones to the mix....*eyepop* For me, the possibilities are endless...

If you like then the OS of Mac (Mac OS X)... you can install it into a PC, isn't needed a Mac. I think this is called "Hackintosh". Google it :)
Of course if you like both Mac software and hardware... then you've selected the correct key.
