So what's the difference between these type II tapes? I picked up a TDK SD earlier last week and am curious.

SD was a basic, entry level Type II. It was meant to be a direct competitor to the Maxell UDS-II/UDII. Sort of a "poor mans High Bias".

It was a decent, no frills tape. And in later versions, had the mid-level type housing.

It should be good for just about any casual type of recording. Though for true high fidelity, you should go with SA or higher.

Ahhh. Cool. The music on the SD sounds like a high-level type 1 tape with some extra treble. The housing is pretty decent, guess the better the tape, the more durability gets put into the housing.
