hey guys, i just got back from a set of medical appointments in portland for me and my mother. it was a very busy day. still, i had the opportunity to show my mother's hubby around AUDIO SPECIALTIES, LTD. the shop where i obtained my PIONEER VSX-D1S back in 2003. there were several items of interest, the best of which were these two components stacked directly on one another on a file cabinet next to the front counter with a big, fat SOLD tag on them...

all i could think was WOW. definitely the most impressive AMP/PRE combo i've ever had the pleasure of seeing in the flesh, and the best i've ever seen right behind the PIONEER C-90/M90 set...o-o:-)

SANSUI G-9000B (a PRISTINE example, freshly cleaned and serviced, awaiting it's owner atop the front counter. VERY impressive to behold!!o-o:-) )

PIONEER VSX-9500S (a rather nice looking TOTL receiver that tends to suffer from reliability issues inherent in it's design...)

YAMAHA RX-V2095 (the first time i've ever seen this receiver, the drop-down door has a pleasently silky-smooth action...)

NAKAMICHI BX-100 (i guess i got a hell of a deal on that one i found for $15.00 as A.S.L. here wanted $130.00 for his...)

SONY CDP-507ESD ( NOW WE'RE COOKING WITH FIRE!! this one was on a rack facing the rear of the store. an item queing shelf where the proprietor puts the extra components he has on hand that are ready to sell, but when he's lacking free slots on the showroom racks. this area is where i first saw my D1S...o-o:-) )

PIONEER GR-777 ( heh, i've waited years for A.S.L. here to get one of these in. now, after the stuwster finds me a very special one for a steal of a price, A.S.L. get's an example in with a dinged-up PIONEER badge and no remote or manual for $95.00...)

anyway, that was a fun experience, and the first time i've gotten to share A.S.L. with both you all AND my mother's hubby DERIC. next chance i get to go up there, i'll remember to take actual pics of the place...o-o:-)

here's some scenic shots from when we were riding the tram from the primary OHSU hospital complexes down to the newly built digestive health building at the foot of "Pill Hill" as the hill that the Oregon Health Sciences University campus has always been situated upon is known as...

left to right, Deric, my sister Angela, me...

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/shaorin-chan/family%20pics/DSCF1436.jpg

that building with the red smokestack directly beside the bridge there, is OMSI, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. a fun place...

that rust colored building over there, the one with the turqouise top, that was my favorite building when i was little. i used to call it "THE MISSILE BUILDING"*el_loco*
