Okay, can anyone here identify the year (rough estimate) and formulation type of this Scotch cassette? The only markings on this tape are "Extended Range" and "120" which I'm sure means 60 min. each side. I picked it up at the local thrift a while back and figured for $0.30, I couldn't go wrong. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like it's from the early 70's. Outside of that, I don't know.

If it's that old, and it's a C-120, then most likely it's a LN Type-I version. Most reputable tape schleppers didn't make anything longer than C-90 in Type-II+'s until CD's came out that needed to be recorded. I found a couple Ampex's like that which had library stuff on them, and library markings on the side. A good bet.

I figured it was from the early 70's. I also guessed it was a cheap Type-1 judging by the color and thickness, just didn't know where it rated in terms of quality. I may try to record on it tonight to see what the quality is like. This for sure is one of the thickest 120 min cassettes I've ever seen. It's as if they didn't bother with making the tape thinner, which reduces durability, I think they stuck with the C-60 thickness. When in mid-tape, the reels almost touch each other. Look closley at how far the supply reel reaches. If anyone else has any idea or additional info, it'd be appreciated. Thanks for the help guys!
