My son just gave me a set of huge 3 way speakers.
There are no labels but I pulled a woofer and its a Electrovoice EVM158.
The only thing I can find on it seems to be a guitar driver.
The box also has 2 horns in it.
Does anybody have any experience with these?

Any pictures? That would help. Klipsch used EV's as did Electro-Voice in there speaker enclosures. A lot of which were designed by Paul Klipsch, one example the Aristocrat

Here is some information on the Aristocrat

They also made the Georgian and Cardinals which was very similar to the K-horns.

Hi Dennis! WoW, those horns look interesting. What do they sound like? efficient?

How do they compare with the KG4's you had?

They sound kinda muddy.
The tweeter and midrange have pots on the back that need cleaning badly.

You might try blocking off some of the ports, see if that tightens them up any.

my grandma has a pair of conventional-looking vintage three way E-Vs in the living room driven by a crappy early-90's MAGNAVOX A/V receiver. they have mid and high adjustment pots mounted directly above the wire terminals. they sound quite respectable, actually, even with crap amplification...

I am still getting frustrated trying to find info on these speakers.
The closest I can find is they are discontinued guitar speakers.
I believe somebody used some parts and a kit.
The bass drivers were used in Leslie organ speakers for a while and SRV was fond of them also.
Will keep looking.

Possibly is wax.

Was able to do some more research.
They are almost identical in dimensions to Cornwalls.
Looks like somebodys home made speaker project.
The bass drivers are used in many bass guitar setups.
They have also been used in K horns as a replacement.
It will be interesting to dig into them and get them working.
If all else fails they will make nice garage speakers.
Oh,and the woofer is a EVM 15B not 158,guess I need glasses.

You Dog you!! :D:p

Ratt, I know next to nothing about them, if you don't care for the sound, the parts may be worth more than the sum. The cast alloy woofer basket is very *drool*y.
