o-o:-) this has been a VERY good week for this budding tech! first, i fix that DCD-910 for the living room system, and now, just this morning, i rendered that DOA PD-91 of mine operational!!!! i got a hold of it early this year via an enable thread for a cali estate sale back on AK for $25 plus another $20 shipping. i knew full well it was non functional, but i had heard that PIONEER had issues with many of their late 80's manufactured pick up assemblies focus lenses falling off due to bad adhesive. thus, i decided to take the gamble and see if that was what this deck was suffering from. sure enough, it was. strangely, i could not find it's lost lens anywhere in the chassis. still, i had tried a couple times before to fix this sucker with lenses left over from a couple dead optical disk products i harvested parts from. no success. still, just this week, i decided to relieve myself of some excess crap, including a dead 1991 KENWOOD portable CDP that i got from a yard sale several years back. since it was dead anyway, i decided to dismantle it. when i got to the pick-up, i noticed that the lens looked promising, like it might just fit the aperture of the 91's pick-up. thus, i pried it off, (VERY EASY, no wonder PIONEER had adhesive problems!!) and the next morning, (this morning) set to work dismantling the 91 until i had the laser sled mecha free. then, i popped off the plastic shroud that surrounds the aperture and carefully applied tiny dabs of LOCTITE super glue around the curcumference and placed the lens home with precision needle pliers. i managed to get it all reassembled, then i had to readjust the VRs in the pick-up control block, as i once tried earlier this year at the recommendation of someone back at AK, to readjust them from their factory settings in order to coax it into operation. needless to say, i had screwed it up big time. still, within 30 minutes of pot-twiddling, it was, totally to my surprise, PLAYING A FACTORY CD!!!! and then, after another half-hour, CD-Rs AS WELL!!!!o-o:-) let me tell you, as much as my infamous love of the DENON DCD-1500 pains me to, that this is, without reservation, THE BEST sounding CDP i have ever had, and likely ever will have the pleasure of owning, period. i simply cannot believe the the gorgeous, detailed resolution this baby is capable of!! i have never before heard my Anime princess' sweet, beautiful little voices with such syrupy ethereal beauty!!!! oh goodness, THE RESOLUTION!!!! NO WONDER this CDP is so hard to find!! only someone positively mad out of their mind would even dream of parting with this beautiful, beautiful REFERENCE compact disc player. my new reference, to be sure...o-o:-)

Glad it is working, but I'd recommend another type of adhesive as super glue can fog plastic and lenses. I hope the fix keeps in working. *hope*

Very cool John. I'd never want to attempt fixing these things myself. I'd usually send it to a service tech. Good thing you got it going. And nice looking player I might add. It was about the same generation of CD player as my Luxman D-105u.

thanks! i'm pretty sure the labor bill on this sucker would have been enormous!! now that i know how, just as soon as i can foot it, i'm gonna get at least two replacement pick-ups from PIONEER and install them myself as needed...o-o:-)

don't worry; i used TRACE amounts in four spots around the outermost edges. JUST enough to tack it down. it should hold just fine until i can afford replacement pick-ups...

Well if it works tomorrow no problem, as the fogging will appear almost immediately if it is going to occur. Nice fix. I had a PD-91 and a PD-93 at one time but like an idiot I sold them both in 2004. *fit*
