I have so far used sewing machine oil, which I suppose is about SAE 10 in weight. I just got some 3 in 1, the blue electric motor version which is SAE 20. Any idea what the recommended oil is for the 3014?

Not 3-in-1!!!! That stuff will gum up with age and heat. Light sewing machine oil, or synthetic motor oil like Mobil1.

RemOil is just a light oil, synthetic if I recall. But it has a very high film factor so it coats and stays (on firearms).

Seems RemOil has some teflon in it? Not sure if this a good or a bad thing for this application..
I suppose non-synthetic gums up a bit quicker. It's hard to find out what's actually in the "3 in 1" (blue version in this case), which is why I'm a bit reluctant to use it.
BTW, has anyone removed the sintered bearings from the main plate of the 3014, and if so, was it difficult/risky? I'm really worried about applying any force to the bearings!

If the bearings are sintered bronze impregnated, then seriously the best oil for it is Isoflex PDP65. Do a search on ebay for it.

Everyone has an opinion.
As to the oils I use or have used-
Gun type or generic fishing reel type I have use Tri-Flow on tape decks and
guns and may other mechanical devices. This can of oil has to be shaken a lot to get the Teflon particles floating in the oil otherwise the Teflon stays out of the equation. Many have mentioned the use of Turbine oil for decks.
It sound like a better than 3 in 1 solution.
Definately do NOT use WD-40, it is not an oil or lubricant at least not for long.
Somehow I think 3 in 1 that you get at a grocery store or department store can not be that good for the price. It is probably a waste product from some other process involving organic chemistry.
Use of synthetic oils does not seem bad but I have no experience with them. The PDP65 seems like a good oil to use but if you read the instructions it can not be mixed with any other oil that means not used on bearings that did not have it before. That would leave out everything but the early Studers for which it was created.

I used Outers gun oil.
It was what I had on hand .

I think I have a big bottle of that from the good old days and have refilled some of the pen oilers I use from it so I would say that it has not given me any trouble on my Pythons or tape decks either.

I have not done it, but I have a new tapetransport, and it looks like they are glued. So...... you probably need to heat them.
Best oil, I've got the oiltype Tandberg adviced.
