I like how this one makes my prerecorded movies look on my Vizio plasma. also timeshifting the old fashoned way. now I just need to get actual SVHS instead of drilling holes in regular ones-noteeth-

I do get a teensy bit of buzz in the audio, almost like a ground loop.....

Funny since I just sold 52 S-VHS blanks to another member for $40 plus shipping. The Panasonic is a nice unit, and I would probably look for an AG1980 myself.

D'oh!!!

This one is very similar to the 1980 but doesn't have full frame TBC, Its kinda overkill for what I use it for. I may use it to help my dad transfer some SVHS-C tapes from a screwy camcorder, see if the TBC can get rid of those lines in the video.

The tape drilling?

A TBC is mainly used to steady the video picture that VHS is known for producing (which is a shaky video picture).

To clean up the video you need DNR which is digital noise reduction. The Panasonic also has that- at least on the 1980 unit.

The deck. The younguns now call Awesome Sick, which is much better than the previous usage of (the) ***t by far. At least the slang is evolving towards the positive at the moment.*eyepop*

I agree! much better than saying "the $h!t" *bigthumbup*

It has some kind of noise reduction but it doesn't do a whole lot, but most of my tapes are ok, we'll see when I try it out, I just need to borrow a VHS-C adapter.

Very nice S-VHS. I know your dilemma. My JVC VideoMovie GF-S550 is an S-VHS as well. Since it is my only S-VHS machine, and I don't have any other machine that can read S-VHS I am stuck using it in VHS mode. Also other than online, there is no way I can get SVHS tape around here *shrug*. Gotta love adjustable audio levels, level meters, and HiFi on a machine that can record near-CD quality audio for 8 hours in one shot

My machine would be useful for audio recording with its vu meters and recording level faders, a cheap way to do a lot of analog recording*bigthumbup* too bad they don't show many concerts on TV around here.

Right now I'm using it for some VHS digitizing projects with a WinTV PVR 150 in an old Dell running (K)Ubuntu 11.10, VideoLan and Avidemux. The TBC is quite useful with some of these old tapes.
