I've been knee deep in cassette world these past several weeks having found a bevy of nice decks too good to pass up. However this AM I made time to run my TEAC A-2300SD. I chose to record a mix CD I made for the cassette decks. I pulled from the shelf a Scotch 806 I purchased from Ebay in August. It was sticky and I treated it with NuFinish. It was fine when I put it away so it would be interesting to see how it would perform a couple of months after treatment.

I'm pleased to announce that it recorded beautifully sonically and showed no signs of SSS. No squeal, no deposits and no pulling on the take-up swing arm which on my deck is a dead giveaway of SSS tape. When I pulled the tape from it's plastic bag it still had a sweet NUFinish smell too.

I have some AMpex 407 from a pancake that one half I treated with NuFinish and the other half I baked. I'm going to see how the baked reel compares to the NuFinish reel since both are from the same pancake.

Was this tape treated just with the polymer portion, or did it get the full nu-finish treatment?

I can tell you right now that the baked 407 will be as bad as ever. Baking only works for a few weeks at a time in my experience.

I treated all of the tapes I've used NU Finish on with the full formula. The pure polymer I used during the passes to remove any residue of the previous full formula passes. Also the pure polymer is great as a booster treatment if needed. So far every Nu Finish treated tape has stayed free of SSS.
