This is one of the few old brochures from around the mid 80s I kept. Wish I had the others too, but this is here.
Take a look. I have a couple other brochures from earlier and later on VHS, but here this one is.
They sure don't make them like this anymore. Also the site below has a couple parts for these old Panny decks.

I think Panasonic liked VHS as much as JVC did. Their pro end really supported VHS right to the bitter end. The other good manufacturer was Sony. Sony pretty much makes the best video equipment out there- then and now. Their audio gear may take a second seat in terms of Sony's video equipment.

I wouldn't mind owning the PV 1740K model too. Im looking for one just for nastalgia sake, as I already have some good VHS equipment. But Im sure if one came across- they'd be dying to get rid of it by now.

Hey Braxus..."meanwhile over at the Sony booth"....here's what Sony was offering.Of course, they had Beta, and this brochure is also from the mid-80's,presenting their slant on the right way to watch videotape.I liked the Beta format, had a Radio Shack Beta machine when it first came out back in the mid-80's,and I did own a Sony Beta machine too.I still have a couple of Beta machines I need to clean-up and get working, also found some NOS Sony Beta blank tapes in a thrift awhile back, even found a rare tape rewinder!! Since when did CANON make VCRs? Weird. They didn't stick with it for long.

Well here are some more scans. The first 4 are of a vcr made in around 1982. My friend at the time whos family had one of these. Remember I thought it was the greatest machine at the time. The last two are 1992 of a vcr I bought around April 93. I had just got my check for some tax refund I was getting and I payed off this vcr I had on layaway. This was a 1992 model I believe. I also originally owned the VTS-730 model which was one before the 751 and they were pretty much identical. The remote was different though. Anyway for fun I put a scan of a fullsize S-VHS camcorder from the same brochure. I was sure big into both VHS and S-VHS machines. If it weren't for DVD recorders, I'd still be into them.

even WITH the sensual, sexual convenience of the DVD recorder i am personally still hopelessly mad for the Video Cassette Recorder. think about it; the average DVD recorder: flimsy physical construction, generic cosmetics, clumsy interface, and SILVER PLASTIC EVERYWHERE. a convenience item, to be sure, but that, is ALL you're going to get, at any price! compare all that to the average TOTL or even mid range VHS/S-VHS from their heyday of the late "80s: SOLID CONSTRUCTION, INTRICATE ENGINEERING, virtuous design excellence, and various niceties such as sophisticated remote controls, insulator feet and faux wood panels!!!! no, convenient as a DVD or HD recorder may be, in the end, them, like all other home electronic products of the 21st century, are, like today's automobiles, CHEAP, GENERIC, and TOTALLY DISPOSABLE...
