My name is Dave and I am a tape-a-holic from southern VA. I go by the screen name "theaudiophool" in the yahoo reeltoreel group. I've had over 200 reel to reel machines at one point but am down to about 150 now and hope to get down to just 20 or so as I Fleabay them off over the next few months. I hope I can be of some help in this group with questions etc and I am sure I will learn more also, I've been using reel to reels (and wire recorders) since the 1960s and at one time repaired them for a living for a radio station and for a time at various hifi stores like Musicraft in the 70s etc. I am now retired but was a computer engineer by trade.

Welcome!

This is a great place where everyone is welcome regardless of whether they use a walkman or a 2" studio machine. I hope you enjoy it here.

150 machines? 130 of them looking to sell? Wow! How much do you usually sell them for?

Depends on what they are and what kind of shape etc. I sold a bunch of them off about a year ago and I am getting ready to put a bunch of them and some other equipment on the 'bay shortly. I'm at a point financially that I need extra money just to keep up with the mortgage and living expenses etc now that I am on disability so it all has to go except for a few. I will be ebaying several Crowns, Sonys, Concertones and lots of old moneo recorders also. Also a few wire recorders have to go also. Will also be selling about 1000 reel to reel tapes, some pre recorded etc.

Welcome to the forum,,,where does one keep 150 tape decks ?

Same place I kept them when I had 200 of them - at home :) I'm single and have a 5000 sf 1890 Queen Anne and pretty much every room is piled high with decks, tapes and other equipment. I'm trying to sell the house before I lose it to the bank and will be moving into a much smaller house so I want to really trim down the herd a bit...

If you are looking for TA (Tapes Anonymous), then you are in the wrong place. We will enable you and feed your addiction the way Norm was given beers at Cheers. If you are looking to kick the tape and audio habit, just think "Karma" and you'll swear it off forever.

And BTW. That TA is not to be confused with another T&A. We don't have "that" one either.

But welcome aboard anyway. We think you'll like it.

Did you go under an old Ebay name called "Gimmemytapedeck"?

Nope, I've only ever had the one fleabay name, davidinva, though I think I might have bought something from that guy at one time.
