Hello....
I was wondering why my status is a Lurker? I dont intend to be, or feel like im a Lurker. What does it take not to be a Lurker? I try to post whenever there is something that I feel compelled to post to, or that I may be able to help out with. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, TandbergRay

Greetings TandbergRay:

I addressed this with last nights bulletin.

Originally, when I set up the site, I assigned default 'titles' to users based on activity and post count. 0-10 posts was 'lurker' (i.e. new and/or not active), then from 11-99, the title would automatically change to "TapeHeads.Net member". Then 100+ and it would change to "Serious Tapehead".

Your concern was one of the primary reasons I changed it. You can now go under your CP and "edit details", there should now be a field to populate a custom title, which would then appear under your user name. I don't know if it would retroactively apply to all posts you made like the avatars do, or if it's only a 'going forward' thing.

But no need for you to feel like a 'lurker'. Feel free to change it.

Thanks Matt,
I didn't read everything about it, but I was trying to read as much as possible all week, to see if it was something I could change, Lurker just seems so derogatory, usually its hinted at that way, in other forums. I just didn't want to be associated with it, if I were looked at as someone that just gathers goods, and leaves, because im not that way at all. I guess it was more of a way I perceived the word or title....I will try to change things. I would have way more posts, and also would have joined sooner, but I didnt know this existed, till I emailed you. I was staying away from AK much these past months myself, so Im glad I checked back on the day I emailed you, and became aware of this site, its great, again, glad to be a member......

You're welcome Ray. The negative stigma of 'lurker' had dawned on me too, hence why I gave the option to change it. It also has the added benefit of allowing you to create 'personal' profiles and give the site that much more of a welcoming feel. And unlike AK, which has a 'walking on water, holier-than-thou approach to their rules of conduct, I am always open to suggestions and don't mind someone asking questions. It doesn't mean that I'll give in to every request every time, but I'm man enough to know that this site is nothing without its participants. So where is the need to talk 'down' to you? Being here isn't doing YOU any favors. If anything, it's the other way around. Apparently they don't see it that way. And except for the handful of folks there that mindlessly parrot whatever the mods want, everyone else is apparently walking on eggshells.

A black-tie tuxedo event may be richer, classier, and stiffer than a roadside sawdust bar with a pool table, dartboard, and a juke box.

But guess where most people will have more FUN at?
