Well I just finished replacing the rotten pad and broken slpice on a 8-track tape. I haven't had to do that in years. I didn't miss that side of 8-tracks for sure.

It's a labor of love...... but nice to keep the music playing.

I do a couple a night, never will get through all of them. It is great reviving one from the dead and getting it to play again. Been slacking lately on pads and splicing as I'm still going through the Craigs list players.

Most all of my 400 or so cartridges have been re-padded,not so many have been re-spliced.I usually put a tape into a deck that I can have it stop at each track, pull the cart out and examine the splice to see IF it needs re-spliced or not,if it looks fine I leave it alone. Then there are those tapes that when you pull them out after the track change, you see just ends of tape in the opening, but most of the time the end has disapeared into no-mans-land and you get the joy-of-joys job of going' in and retrieving it!! I have my crown jewel tapes that have pads, new splices, and even the original sleeves, but most of the time I'll put one in the player and if it works well, I'm not going to question why. There's nothing more depressing than fixing a pad and ruining the locks on the tape and having to have it held together with scotch tape, or in one extreme case duct tape.
