Ok...for this week I went a little....nuts!! Since this is THE place for those who are into the magnetic medium of every type, here's some ads and brochures from various companies for all that WAS great in cassettes,reel-to-reel,and 8-track!!Enjoy what was then and what is nevermore(well, not available at your local stereo store,at least!!) *reelspin**fit**reelspin*. Thanks! It was great to see those Sony HF-S cassettes. I'd still be buying them if Sony still made them. They would have made a small fortune from me buying those HF-S 90's.

Those blank Maxell 8-tracks got me to wondering; does anyone know how homemade recorded 8-tracks sounded on a decent deck with quality tape? Did they sound pretty good? I know the cartridges put out by the record labels are somewhat less than impressive.

One day Nad I'll get back to you on that 8 track sound quality question.

I was a bit surprised to read the lineup for Sony's tapes compare to other tapes. The XL-II vs Sony UX-S for example. I would have guessed the UX would be more appropriate, but maybe I've been wrong all these years. I thought the UX was a better tape then they list it as. And for those wondering why the UX-Pro was left blank on its competitors, its because the UX-ES used the same tape as UX-Pro, but with a better shell on the Pro tape. Being Maxell had an excellent shell on the XL-IIS tape- I would more inclined to compare that tape with the UX-Pro then the ES tape.

Thanks for the great Tape ad scans. I remember seeing a lot of them in the old days when all I could afford was Memorex tapes.

Retrokeeper, could you do a scan of a bunch of tape & cassette related pages from the old Radio Shack catalogs, like various stereo decks, accessories, etc...? That would be pretty cool.

I plan on giving that a try soon. I have a few new blanks that I have to replace the pads and foil first. I'll give a report.

Hi Braxus,

Your comments would be similar to mine actually. For instance, I always thought the UX was a quality match for the TDK SA - but actually, the pricing notch for the UX was more aligned with a TDK SD.. I haven't got a UX-Pro - my understanding too was that the main difference between that and the UX-ES were the ceramic guides in the UX Pro. Are there any other differences in the shell - I was quite impressed with the UX-ES shell in general.

I'd always assumed that that Sony UX was their version of the Maxell XLII, which was their version of the TDK SA. Same with the UX-Pro, XLII-S, & SA-X, too.

Thought I'd bump this post for newbies to see the ads. Again the Sony lineup above really surprised me when I saw it.

So is Larrys group buy for UX-Pros? If so, I'll take another 10 if there's any left..
