Well, my mother did not like the shelf, so she got me 2 smaller ones....

There are far less wires to be seen now, because I got them all tied up with a gazillion cable ties....

The computer audio cables (the 2 black ones behind the TV stand) are only temporary because I am getting a new desk on Friday (which is when I will post pix of the rest of the room, it's all been changed), and the desk is gonna be on the other side of the computer. So I'll have to change the wiring.

So whaddya think, TH?

That other shelf is for non used and non working equipment...it will be overflowing shortly.

Not bad. But why would the mom object to something that was smaller and more compact? I used to have a sprawling system like that. And I condensed it down significantly. And now I'm trying to figure out a way to further compact it.

Here's a before and after of the Des-Lab system.

As it appeared in 2004:

And how it looks now in 2008:

And yes. There have been a few changes to the component lineup.

She was worried that it would fall on me.....

And I like the system better this way, anyway...

As long as YOU like it, that's all that ultimately matters. Of course my bedroom is separate from my listening room. So no worries about toppling. Plus it's braced and mounted to the wall from behind.

Speaking of the whole 'danger' thing, sometimes I wonder. Who would I pass my system along to in the event of my passing? Got no kids and no siblings. Wife wouldn't really know what to do with it. Got no one else in the family really interested in audio aside from my father and one uncle. Can only hope that maybe one day one of my cousins 11 kids (yes eleven) takes up audio. I'd likely heir it to them.

i can see that dave's got one of those four-input PELICAN A/V switch boxes like like i once had before i upgraded to a five-input, S-VIDEO version of the same unit. i have two; one that video games link to daisy chained to the primary one directly under the TV that the core video components are linked to. an elegant and functional layout, IMO.

BTW, here is how my system looked three years ago:

Im in the same situation. I have no kids (or a wife even), so if I passed on I'd have no one to really take the equipment either. And none of my nieces or nephews really cares about this stuff. Only my oldest brother is into stereos and I might outlive him.

This gives me lots of upgrade space for new equipment, the cables are less cluttered, it won't fall, and I generally like it better.

And of course, there is that little matter of the extra room on that other shelf that is just right for another R2R....

I'm 16, so I hope that I do no thave to worry about that for a while...

I hate the damn thing. Only 2 of the inputs work with audio, and none with video...

Soon, very soon, soon as I get the money soon, I am getting a DBX 300.

I need one.

If you disregard the labels, and are careful, it can handle 9 cassette decks at once.

John, I think that you're a LITTLE heavy on the pix...*el_loco*
