Hey

Anyone have this deck and open it up for service? I really, really like mine, but I think it may be under-biased. Good tape stock gives me pretty nice results, but acoustic guitars and some hi-hat cymbals are "spitty".

I haven't had the time lately, but I should probably just go in there and crank it.

Anyone have a similar story or results? I was basically just trying to "cheat" older tapes into giving me better highs, but set it too low and it's trash. Generally, I only make tapes from my computer, since if I have the program on vinyl, I don't see the point of making the tape, so most of my tapes are of more recent albums.

Possibly putting an equalizer in-line with the "line in/record" jacks might make a difference,at least you could experiment with it and see what happens.I have an equalizer in-line with a cd recorder, the equalizer is an electronic one, with presets that I can pre-adjust with 5 different levels so that I can boost/cut to my liking. Clean it and adjust the head, check the head for wear. Check to see if DOLBY is engaged.

In no set order.

If that doesn't help, pour mud on it. Do not use interconnects and smoke into it a lot. That should do it.

Notch, notch, know what I mean?
