This Unit powers up but has no sound, I think the amp has died. I need help locating a repair shop.

You can try some easy troubleshooting. Does the relay engage? If you hear a click on power on, that is good. Are the interconnects in place? Try cleaning the controls.

Unless your Realistic has sentimental value (which is priceless!), I'm not sure it is worth putting money into. I'd get something else like a Marantz or Sansui just to try something different.

*eyepop* I need to add more information. The unit powers on, all the lights work. The issue is the amp. No sound from spearkers (a or b) or the headphone jack. also when the volume is turned to about 75%, the sound is very faint. All fuses are good. I toke off the cover, inspecting the inside I notice a few scared areas on a circuit board, Some transitors appear to have been damaged (small burned patches on the board) About 3-4 transitors. This circuit board is attached to the heat sinks. Not sure if this would be worth repairing.*fit*

Is it separable, meaning interconnects between pre-and power-amp sides? If so, disconnect it and hook the pre-outs into another receiver/amplifier and see if the tuner puts sound into the 2nd receivers AUX jacks. If it can't be separated, then time to get out the meters ....

If you can fix it yourself, you will have a fun project. If you have to take it to a repair shop, you will be lucky to get out of there with less than a $75 repair bill. I'd check your local CL and spend that $75 on another receiver. You would be surprised what kind of deals you will find and for something that is frankly at lot better than your Realistic.

This might be a great project to learn on. Any members nearby who could lend a teaching-hand?
