this JPN market, TOTL Hi-Vision MUSE high-def laserdisc player is, quite literally, the proverbial holy grail of pretty much every remaining laserphile in existence excluding your humble author. preposterous as it may seem, to me, nothing comes even close to this model:

anyway, the true believers, by and large, swear by this $10,000 MSRP grossly understated beast as THE last word in laserdisc performance, period. containing a number of highly advanced technologies, the most notable of which being a "3D comb filter" that is said to be the most advanced comb filter ever devised. those lucky enough to own this reference standard that sells second hand to this day in the $2000/$5000 range will not hesitate to assert that this deck is possessed of the finest laserdisc picture available. that is all well and good, but to me, your humble author, half the fun of A/V gear is having a pretty, impressive component that screams for your attention, even when it sits cold. i'm very sorry, but to me, unreproachable performance or no, a nearly featureless steel ingot simply does not light this author's fire. ah well, to each their own...
