"Here is a High Quality High End VCR made by JVC in Japan ~ model HR-S8OOOU Super DA 4 head Digital VHS VCR..it is in very excellent cosmetic condition ~ clean and free of any distress or worn areas.. one of the small swivel hinges on the full control remote is loose a simple repair can be done on it. The VCR works well, all lights and the massive array on buttons for any possible setting and adjustment can be acheieved..This VCR is professional quality with a smooth operation in play, pause, slow motion forward and reverse, fast rewind and fast forward.. the pause mode is crisp and clear with no movement..the tracking adjustment can set worn tapes and completely stop any flutter or static noise movement. it is capable of making noise and staic free Digital tapes that look as good as a DVD... I am sorry that the manual was mis-placed for this unit..you will be able to get one online from JVC direct~ proably free or an original first class copy from one of the expert copiers at a reasonable price.. I played and used this deck and it played and recorded tapes with a very high clear resolution..then I began to play around with some of the different control functions and did something to the color saturation that I wasn't able to undo..it would take a manual to understand how to set this machine up to work perfectly.. The tape transport is very smooth and quiet..there is a possiblity it could use cleaning and demagnification.. I feel that it wasn't used very much because of its excellent condition.. I am listing it with a"Buy it Now" price of $99.00..with an opening bis of $79.00 ~ the shipping will be determined by your zip code & based on the weight of the unit itself @ 21lbs and a double boxed packed wt. of 28 ~ the deck measures 18"long ~ 13.5 deep and standing 3.75" high on large optional..padded & sprung feet..it also has the optional real wood sides..that are in a beautiful walnut with a beautiful flawless grain.."

What is the reason you cannot buy it? Maybe you could bid and offer him the money next pay day or something? Im sure if you ask him he may do that for you.

well, it's a week listing, with six days left, and it couldn't have started at a worse time what with our present tight condition and all...

Hopefully you'll get something together for it. Looks like a nice VCR from the days when I swooned over these things. I wonder if this deck was one of the first S-VHS decks JVC made?

Want to see a really cool S-VHS VCR, I know the guys at the local tv station. And they were getting rid of some of their equipment. So the one employee took one of the S decks home. He rarely used it, so he offered it to me. I bought it off him for $40 and it has been rebuilt to new usable condition. It has new heads, and a few other parts. It needs some cleaning, but its usable.
It will be used in my home business system which is my backup second system. Im planning on getting more video decks to go with this deck, but haven't found any yet. I already have a linear editting board from Sony to work with this deck and the coming ones.
I took some shots of this pro deck, so take a look. The only thing this deck doesn't do it play tapes made in any other speed then SP. For that I'd need a consumer deck.

As a person who buy movies, for me, the domestic video formats previous to the appearance of the DVD are part of the past and I won't ever go back to them.
I own about one hundred (or even more) of 4 and 5 hours VHS tapes and don't know what to do with them. I've asked to some friends if they'd want some tapes for free and all reject the offer.
Of course, if you like that model and want to buy it for collecting purposes, that's fine, but if you want some quality... *hope* *flame*

I know. I actually have a couple hundred VHS and S-VHS tapes. Also in some cases linear editting is easier for me to do. I agree with your comment on quality, but my video system is mainly being built for A/V transfers to newer formats. So naturally I need these old decks. Plus it gives me the option to edit my own stuff in old formats before I dub over to the computer.

The 9000- same deck I already have. I need a second one in better condition.
Anyway I just got a BIN for an old 3/4" UMatic Pro VCR since I have funds freed up from losing the Aiwa deck. It will go along with my Panasonic Pro deck. All I need now is a D-VHS deck, a ED Beta deck, the Pro Hi 8 deck, and that would be about it. I may also get a Sony DV deck, but that's not high on my list.
Anyway here is a pic of the beast of the Umatic deck I just won. I hope the thing works since they weren't able to test it.

You're not kidding. These old machines were very loud to use and gave some klunky kachunks when activated. Very robust tapes. Umatic dates back to the early mid 70s in design and when it was put out.

the JPN market version of the HR-S8000U. i once had much better pics, but i lost them. i'm working on obtaining more. one thing i can state from memory is this version's lack of the wood grain veneer on the top bonnet, and darker-toned side panels...

Yah I was bidding on that auction. Got outbid too. I didn't expect it to go this high since the deck needs service to even use. Plus there was an auction for the 9000 a couple months ago for around $595 and it would not sell. People read something like "low hours" and they go nuts over it. I would pay more on this auction, but I just don't have the funds available to do it. I guess I'll have to keep my eye open for another 9000 or prey they can fix the one I have to factory specs again.

DAMN!! another HR-S8000U, a tad more than the last, but in as good a condition as that last was. (except for a busted remote flap *headache*) this one's on for an even shorter period!!

not only is that flap busted, but the instructional decal is peeling, too!! these remotes are still available NOS from WWW.REMOTES.COM for a rather steep $111.30 per copy. nevertheless, i will have to eventually invest in at least one spare... http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=gmi&smodel=HRS8000U&brand_pn=JVC_HRS8000U&mode=large&uuid=12245425932870

I'd wait John. Replacing remotes may cost more then this auction. The price they ask for this deck is a bit high for this age of VCR. Only the newer decks are in the $100 range that have less use or more modern technology in it (like noise reduction). I suspect you'll be able to get this deck for basically nothing compared to these auctions of late. Wait it out. It will come along.

10-4. eventually down the road, though, i'll invest in a spare remote or two. this model's remote, in fact, is the only one of my three top favorite dream VCR's ( JVC HR-S8000U, MITSUBISHI HS-U70/HS-U80) whose remote is still actually available NOS anywhere at any price. i can only *hope* that WWW.REMOTES.COM 's stock holds out until the SS comes through in what should be less than a year from now...

John,

sorry for the belated response, brax...
JVC HR-S8000U RMT $111.30 at WWW.REMOTES.COM NOS, and i haven't the foggiest what the mean average rate is used on the BAY. the ones for the MITSUBISHI HS-U70 and U80? around $70/something when they were still available NOS, and anywhere from $10 to $30 for either is typical for the BAY...
