Hello All,

I am refurbishing my own Tascam 35-2B which I have owned since new but which has been in storage for the last 20 years! I would estimate that it has literally only about a couple of hundred hours on the clock. The only problem I have come across so far is thus -: Using a new MRL alignment tape, when performing fine repro azimuth using a scope, the left hand channel is not as stable as the right ie. amplitude variations at 16Khz 0 level. Right hand channel seems fine. Tape tension (using a calibrated tentelometer) is within spec and obviously heads are clean etc.

Also, despite it being a brand new alignment tape, oxide shedding is visible and heads have to be cleaned every few passes of the tape. I seem to remember that this machine always had a tendency to get dirty heads quickly.

I have used Studer machines at work over the years, and it does seem that the Tascam is not very kind to tapes when changing modes from fast wind/rewind to play etc - tending to be a bit violent to the tape.

Perhaps I am expecting too much from this semi-pro machine?

Many thanks in advance for anyone with any info about servicing this slightly less common Tascam.

Marc
