View Full Version : Marantz DD82 keeps switching between analogue and DCC

Hi everyone, I'm using a DD82 primarily to capture analogue cassettes on my computer. When I play back analogue tapes, the DD82 intermittently switches briefly to DCC format for a second or so before returning playing back the analogue sound. I hear a mechanical clicking sound in the recorder when this happens. Otherwise, playback is perfectly fine.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? Many thanks in advance.

The problem occurs when You use various cassettes or specific type only? And what's about DCC tapes?

It happens with all types of analogue cassettes: pre-recorded, normal, chrome ones... I've now also noticed that the clicking doesn't happen at specific points on the tape. I played back a tape with clicks every few seconds at times, and then played it back again with no clicks at all for about 45 minutes. Any ideas?

In the meantime, I've found a solution thanks to posters on http://www.hififorum.nl/index.php?topic=22694. It turned out my problem was caused by a faulty miniswitch that is meant to distinguish DCC cassettes (which have an additional hole in them) from analogue ones. If you follow the link, you can see that I've got around the problem temporarily by putting some gaffertape on side 2 of the cassette so that the DCC switch is pushed more reliably.
