I have one that I won on Ebay, but I haven't hooked it up yet. If I remember correctly I have the manual.

DBX unit came in, hooked it up and has a severe channel in-balance*fit**fit*
I contacted the seller and advised him in the in-balance.*yes*
Any ideas on why there is such a huge difference in the output of the channels when DBX is engaged?*dunno*
I did try different cables!*?confused*
I don't have a service manual to mess with the thing.
Is this a simple fix?

audio coupling cap in dbx audio line is going bad?

PS will be able to fix it for you. I'm quite certain.
He fixed a DBX unit for one of my customers recently. Although I don't remember the model number, it was their impulse noise reduction unit for vinyl playback.
He did a great job and it now works perfectly.*bigthumbup*

Thanks for the kind words, SG!
It looks like we're going to put his unit on the back burner for now, but I hope in the future I'll be able to get into it.

The 224 is a decent NR but the 224xDS is much better. More flexable and can be fully adjusted to not over do the NR. IIRC, the 224 has a fixed level of NR where as the 224x, series II and 224xDS are completely adjustable

Really?
I did not know that
I'll have to keep an eye out, snag one and see
Adjusting the amount of NR, in the same way you might adjust the amount of compression?

Not only is it more flexible, but one great benefit of the xDS is the ability to hook 2 tape decks. Before I had the DS I had the 224X series II. That one only had hook ups for one deck and I had the cassette hooked to that. Open reel deck went through my Tape 2 Monitor. Once being able to hook 2 decks via the DS model, man, what a HUGE difference in sound quality and making Open reel tapes practically silent. The superb difference forced me into re-recording every open reel I did before having the DS.
I just finished the last 10.5" tape I had already recorded this morning. That was 32 re-recorded tapes. Took lots of time but well worth it. The ability to record virtually silent tapes, recorded hotter then before and listening to alot of great music. If at all possible, get one of the 224xDS series II. You wont regret it.

... the 224x, series II and 224xDS are completely adjustable
I don't think so. The thumb knobs on the 224X are for adjusting the output level to match your recorder's output level so there won't be a sudden jump in volume when you switch the 224X in and out. The owner's manual specifically says they don't have any effect on the NR.

Besides, then you would have to match the "custom" dbx setting every time, as it's a encode/decode system. With stock dbx setting playback on any dbx deck (cassette, anyway) would be compatible. 224x has level and lights showing nr actiivity, otherwise it's the same. Never seen an xDS. How about some pics?
