The Gorillaz - Plastic Beach double LP is awesome!
I was at the mall a few weeks ago buying desperately needed new clothes in hopes of getting chicks (lol) And as usual I visited the Hot Topic in search of new vinyl, dodging the hipster crap and looking for reissues. But I spotted an album I have a CD of. Gorillaz' Plastic Beach.
Later I arrived at a friend's house to hang out bringing the album in so it doesn't cook in my car. Upon opening it My friend, his girlfriend (Her being an artist), and l noticed the fantastic, quirky Cover art. The sleeve with the picture of Noodle with all the crazy "matrix plugs" in her back was especially striking. The other sleeve had 2-D sitting in a rowboat with all kinds of crazy things including a keytar and an autographed picture of David Bowie! Just great album art.
The vinyl pressings arc of excellent quality. Very heavy but not quite 180 gram. Being a double LP, the grooves are spread out allowing lots of bass (especially on the ReK-0-Kut), outstanding dynamic range, and a very quiet surface. Compared to the LP version, the CD of this album sounds like low bitrate mp3.
Their style in this album contains their usual hip-hop/ alternative mash up with an 80s pop/ new wave twist. This especially so on the track Rhinestone Eyes. This album also features orchestral elements and artists such as Lou Reed (yes Lou Reed) and Snoop Dog. Great Care was taken in producing this album. Its very rich without being overproduced. It is void of the anomalies of autotune, loudness war, and general icky bad sound found in many recordings today. I think there are audiophile stickler-types behind this album because the sound is top notch.
I highly recommend this one because it is one of the great albums of our time. And a nice double LP to boot. Now we just need a Mobile Fidelity cassette issue of this one........
