What looks like a "good condition" TCD 910 up for grabs on Ebay, available to US residents with requisite fat wallets, for the rest of us a chance to see what all the fuss is about.

I saw this earlier tonight. Check the Ebay picture showing the transport. One of the capstans looks to be either corroded or filthy dirty. Does this look the same to you guys? If they want $2500 bucks for it, would it be to much trouble to clean the tape path?

You're right.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
Has this been stored for years in a wet basement or something?

I bougth the TCD 910 this winter and had it serviced. It sounds incredible. Best tapes seem to be TDK which I have to import from UK.
Mostly I tape music from fm and radiostations on digital tv. anyone know where I can get a dust cover or a remote control ?

Hello,
I have 2 Tandberg TD20A, and TD20A-SE, and 3014A. The remote and Receiver that I have, works on all of these decks. I can only assume it would also work on the 910 as well. Mine is the Silver Version though, not Black, but that doesn't matter all that much. Ray

Interesting since the Tandbergs are calibrated for Maxell tapes.

Hmmmmm....Doesn't surprise me much. I have always found TDK Tapes to be far superior to Maxell Tapes. I use TDK SA, and TDK SA-X Tapes for all of my recordings. I even have the professional Walkman WMD6c...and the TDK's sound incredible in this as well. I have cases of them too, I bought out a Store that was going out of business, and unloaded everything at a local FleaMarket. All things were sealed, he was selling everything. I bought as much as I could that day. He worked me a great deal, just to be sure he didnt have to take any boxes home with him. Ray

I personally prefer TDK over Maxell any day of the week. But in this case, the TCD-910 was bought during the winter, and then fully serviced. Maybe the Repairguy biased the unit for TDK Tape. Maybe he was asked to do so, and bias for TDK, or if not, maybe he just biased for TDK on his own preference. Ray

European market Tandberg cassette decks were biased from the factory for BASF tapes. Tandberg also sold these tapes under the Tandberg brand. USA and Canadian market Tandberg decks were biased for Maxell tapes from the factory per my wife, Ingjerd. *reelspin*
