I picked this unit up at Pearl's Seconds in Squamish for $20. At first, I couldn't find the matching speakers and became disinterested in it. But, the next day I did more scouting around in the clothing area of the store and found the JVC speakers. It all works great and sounds fine. The linear tracking turntable is a kick.

Hi Rob, Kyle,

My son got the biggest surprise when I popped the hinged flap and the table extended outwards, automatically. We listened to Supertramp's debut album on it for the demo.

This is one of the gold standard boom boxes. Good score!

For it to be really classified as a "boombox"...is it suppose to have/need/come equipped with a handle?? I thought this was more of a condo/apartment/dorm type of stereo/combo unit. Rob

It's labelled by JVC as a "portable stereo disc center." There's no handle, and no battery storage compartment, but it will work off 12V DC.

Don't you get some serious resonance from the unsupported edges of the LP when playing? Other than that......tres purty!

Hi Scorp,

No resonance to speak of, perhaps, due to it being linear tracker and I don't have any warped records. Without the platter extending out to the edge of a 12" LP you would think there would be an issue.

on some jvc boomboxes you bolted a steel plate on the sides on the elctronics between the speakers. that allowed you to clamp a handle up top.

see first post in this thread.

I have a JVC DC-33 and just got today, a Mint JVC DC-7.. the DC-33 does in fact resonate, the DC-7 is quiet as can be, no microphonics , hum or the like.. very well made although tonal controls on the DC-7 could have been made to be rotary instead of push button switches.. overall, very happy *bigthumbsup*
