Well, judging from the Dad's lame appearence he not going to be offering to crank up Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" in quad, probably some Ray Conniff Singers.

I'm not sure what the Dad would be saying today but the kid would be thinking what the hell is an 8-track.

"Son, you'll never meet that special girl (or guy, and that'd be okay) if you spend all day in your room oiling your mitt. A cool stereo is what attracts girls. Here, use my old stereo that I had when I first shagged your mom...."

Son, I got this deck so we can dub your mothers favorite Herb Alpert Albums to tape. Then much to the chagrin of the shoppers, we can drop the albums off at our local SA or Goodwill.

I actually like Ray Conniff (the early instrumental albums, not so much the Ray Conniff Singers) & Herb Alpert & TJB.

The only thing missing in that ad is a pipe in the dad's hand. I was sure he'd be holding one. Look at the ad again & tell me you can't picture him holding a pipe.

I was just kidding about HA & TJB I like them too. I have a very wide variety of music that I like. I just needed someone to pick on. :)

Yes they did. I owned an old mobile home around that time and I believe I got both hot and cold water pipes from them... come to think of it I got some joints there also.*quiet*

When I looked at the kid the first time I just thought he was getting the sh*t scared out of him because what Dad was saying. Maybe something like: "Son, 4 channel might not catch on now but when pop music goes down the tubes years from now your going to enjoy 4, 5 or even more channels of gunfire, explosions and screams of bloody murder all at once while you watch it happen in front of you in pristine detailed video.... oh and btw, have you seen my water pipe?"--smokin--

Wow what a great ad. Hands up all here who can make a quad 8 track. No cheating stuffing it into the cart.
How about something like.

Well son if you really want it to rewind maybe you'll just have to invent something all by yourself. Go ahead take your time. *devil**devil*

Awhile back I had read somewhere that 8-track could have been an audiophile format, but that a lot of R&D money that could have went towards improving the 8-track went instead to the development of the Elcaset in the early-mid 70's. The audio & tape companies decided to let 8-track fall by the wayside.

I do recall that into the 90's, Radio Shack still sold blank 8-track cartridges, as late as 1993 if I recall correctly.

I'd believe that as I got my Rad Shack blank 8 tracks in around 1987 or 88. Long after 8 track was dead. I needed it for my 79 Mustang that came with a factory stock 8 track deck. And 4 speakers no less- with Im sure the all 2 watts per channel sound.

I have a bonus three pack of unused Maxell LN in front of me. Think there some more around here. Also have the Marantz Quad 8-Track unit. Mint condition. It was given to me at a yard sale because, "It's an 8-track".:-oo
