The only way I can get the high speed ff or rewind to work is to keep my finger on the button. If I release holding the button it reverts to the regular ff/rewind speed. Any ideas?

That's the normal function of the deck. Are you looking for electronic mods to make extra-fast wind all the time (without holding the button)? I'm sure someone could come up with a circuit mod for that. You may have to find a good repair shop to do that however.

Later models in the Yamaha line eventually put that feature in. Nice option on my Kx-930!
