Although I've always been heavily into my music and taping, there was a period of time, roughly the years 1992-2001 where I was also passionate about something else-namely commercial airliners. I used to love going to my local airports and taking pictures of the different planes and the airlines color schemes. Sometimes I'd even take little adventure trips to various points across the country to see and photograph planes that didn't operate to the West Coast here. During that time period, I took many thousands of pictures. I loved getting the various domestic airlines, which were an almost exclusive forté. I took very, VERY few pictures of any of the foreign airlines. Alas, the events of Sept 11, 2001 essentially put a screeching halt to this hobby. My very last airliner trip and photoshoot was in August of that year at San Jose International Airport (SJC) up in NorCal.

Trying to find what pictures to share and scan is tough. But I already happened to have some of my favorites scanned and stored on disc. Depending on interest, I may scan and share more. But here are some of my favorites from those years.

1. American Airlines Boeing 727 at Philadelphia, PA (PHL) May 1994.
2. America West Airlines Boeing 737-300 at Las Vegas (LAS) June 1995
3. Delta Airlines L-1011 TriStar also at LAS February 1995
4. National Airlines Boeing 757 at LAS July 2000
5. "hotrod" Reno Air McDonnell Douglas MD-87 at Los Angeles (LAX) November 1998.
6. Western Pacific Airlines "The Simpsons" Boeing 737-300 at Colorado Springs(COS) January 1996.
7. United Airlines Boeing 747-400 covers the runway in a cloud of smoke as it touches down at Los Angeles in March 1995.
8. One of my all time favorite pictures is this United Airlines 727 also at COS January 1996
9. USAir Boeing 757 at LAX. Photo not dated. This was one of my favorite airlines and color schemes.
10. Southwest Airlines and a [then] brand spankin' new Boeing 737-700 about to leave for Oakland out of LAX in December 1998.

My interest in airplanes has been with me a long time, but mainly to old military aircraft. But since the thread topic is commercial airliners, here's my favorites:

DeHavilland DHC2 Beaver.... best float plane for air taxis and charters ever developed, period. Still heavily in use throughout Alaska, and well maintained ones routinely pass hands for $250-$400k.

http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p141/Scorpion008/DHC2Beaver4.jpg

And the best multi-use aircraft ever developed, IMHO. The DC3 could do anything anyone asked of it in it's day, both civilan and military. There are still some flying in Alaska these days still.

The DeHavilands are some really cool planes. I really enjoyed flying in the single engine Otters on floats when I was living up there.

i have always loved fighter jets since i was a little boy. my favorite is and always has been the F-14...

then, fifteen years back, i was thrust into Anime fandom predominently due to a well known 1985 U.S. amalgamation of three unrelated Anime series into a three era, 80 episode series called ROBOTECH. the first, and most popular of those three being "SUPERDIMENSIONAL FORTRESS MACROSS" and it's main claim to fame, the legendary VF-1A/J/S/D "Valkyrie" variable geometry fighter...

oh, and speaking of airliners, let us not forget ANA's POKEMON themed 747. i do not know about today, but in the late ninties, at least, they had at least one for intercontenental service in japan, and another for cross contenental trips to the U.S. i am unaware of whether they still have that service running, though...

Hey Matt!!

Totally there - I have been into aircraft from the earliest age - then it was the last of the Ist gen turboprops and the pioneering jets of the Ist generation, such as DC-8, 707, 727, 737 and the VC10.

I get a thrill when ever I watch a great pass-by, a takeoff or land rotation and special kick when its a rare sighting of a hugely noisy 1st generation jetliner. One of my favourites is the amazing sound from a Vickers Viscount Rolls Royce Darts!! But a 707-320s four P+W JT3-D motors starting up - too good.....

I have plenty of clips from Flight Level 350, You Tube and the like - and many books. I can never seem to get enough....

Good to know!!

We'll get some more pics up

Marc!!

And especially this "retro" model ...

And even their basic paint scheme is understated nicely ...

The Superconstellation!

I flew over from Africa to Europe and back again a couple of times when I was a kid. I have vague, but pretty colourful memories of them.

Made many a trip from Cordova to Anchorage and points beyond on that basic themed job :)

One of the cool things about Alaska was you took planes to school competitions and usually stayed a night or two where ever you were playing/competing. Swim team, wrestling, basketball...you get the idea.

Sure the DH Comet - that's the 4B from what I can tell. Once they had resolved the metal fatigue issues with the Comet 1 it went on to become one of the best airframes in airliner history. The current BAe Nimrod, the fleet of which have gone through many, many retrofits and upgrades are still in superb shape.

That's the beautiful Connie - the Super C and DC-7B basically took piston engine airliners as far as the technology would allow. The Boeing Stratocruiser was an extraordinary machine too - ugly as all hell of course. You've got to love it for that!!

One for Des, saw this at the Anchorage, Ak airport while waiting to fly back to Juneau last night. Anchorage is a huge airfreight terminal from the Far East and new Russian exporters. This is a Russian transport, Illyushin if I recall...

Nice catch. But it's an Antonov 124. Big plane. But the C-5 Galaxy still kicks its ass.

And also for Des, this Alaska Airlines 737 Cargo was retired and is now part of the Air Museum near the airport. You can walk up and touch her!

Now THAT is simply beautiful. That old 737-200. I see it still has the airjets still on the engines that were used to deflect sand, rocks, and gravel away from the intakes while operating on unpaved runways. I believe those were the only such US registered commercial airliners so equipped and certified.

That's always been one of my favorite of the older jetliners. Don't think Alaska ever brought those down here to SoCal. I saw lots of the MD-80's and 737-400's in days past and have plenty of pictures. And now they use the -700's, -800's, and -900's.

This one (too bad there's no pic of the other side) was cargo-configured. There was a bulkhead in the middle and all the passengers sat aft. Then cargo igloos were loaded in the fore-section and that's how cargo gets shipped around to small markets in Alaska.

Yesterday I went with another friends to take some shots of those birds.

Here are some of my favorites and selected from the ones I think are possibly unknown or hardly seen in USA.
