On Monday I saw it in a local second hand shop, on Tuesday I bought it. Looks nice, apart from minor scratches, all functions are OK. The heads show a little wear, but recording and playing are fine. Dual capstain and and fine bias are nice, but does not sound better than my Pioneer CT-S530. It even has a separate cd/dat input.
I searched for manual but have not found.
Does anybody have any experience with this model?

I think I may have a SM on my home PC. Gimme until tonight and I'll check.

I've got the SM. Send me an e-mail address and I'll U-Send-it to you. It's not that large, but larger than this system allows.

Yesterday I tried with an older (mid 1990's) TDK D-90, and it sounds fantastic, much better than the Pioneer. What I miss is the Pio's real time counter.

Those Aiwa decks are nice solid Decks. I have an excellent condition Aiwa AD-F810 that I picked up at a thrift shop about one year ago for next to nothing. They are not a top of the line deck, but a nice three-head none the less. If anyone knows where I could get a owners manual that would be great. :)

Well, it was kind of a love at first sight for me. :)
Some pictures:
1. On the kitchen table before cleaning.
2. Closeup of the cassette door
3. Sticker on top with tape types for fine tuning
4. RCA in/outputs

I'm having an AD-F800U delivered tomorrow or today I guess. I have a user manual coming with it but would love the service manual just to check the levels. I heard the Dolby level is +3DB DIN on these. That is going to be hard to set isn't it???
I just want to see if it's still within spec.
Thanks guys!
Ron
Happy new year hopefully *hope*

I just downloaded this manual from that site and had no problems. I put both parts in the same folder and told 7Zip to extract from part1 and the PDF that came out looked just fine.
Are you having trouble downloading or extracting?

Hi Ron,
Here is the link to the service manual:
http://elektrotanya.com/aiwa_ad-f800_sm.pdf/download.html
(wait a bit then press "Get Manual" on the right).
The AD-F800 is a very nice deck that can benefit from a simple capacitors upgrade (if you would like to do it I can post a list of what caps need to be replaced). You may need new belts and idler for it, also it would most likely need cleaning and greasing of the reel tables and pinch rollers cleaning. The Dolby Level is the Dolby level, +2.7dB VU, or -1.3dB DIN, same on the AD-F800 as on any other deck.
Cheers
Alex

OK, I'll post the list in a couple of days, after New Year.

No, it is just the meter scale has 0dB at 0VU (160nWb/m) .

Yes.

My Sony 730ES has both scales and is an awesome reference in understanding the two units (VU and DIN). When I see a deck with just one scale and no nomenclature I really have no idea what the units are.
I have not worked with understanding why both VU and DIN are used. To me it is very distracting. Grateful for your help Alex.
Happy new year...

I just spotted a mint AD-F800 on the self at my SA. Somebody tell me why (besides I have too many decks already) NOT to run back and grab this? Seemed to play okay and the functions all worked. No major scratches or anything else.

Go back and get it. Worst case you will need belts for it and they are easy to replace. The deck is easy to work on and does sound great. I love mine.
