I was in a stereo shop today and he was telling me that ALL tapedecks use idler tires. Huh? I thought most decks used gears and idler tires were a Nak only feature. He mentioned Pioneer as one company that has them in their decks. Is all this so and if so- why don't you hear of other decks needing their tires replaced? I only hear Naks with that issue.

i have both a PIONEER and a NAKAMICHI. i can't answer your question as i have never torn apart any decks of either brand, but i am just as curious as you about this... (i'd put a popcorn lurker smilie here if des had included one in the smilie package!! HINT,HINT, BOSS!!!!)

Lots of decks used the idler tire feature. I've torn down HK, Denon, Naks, Akai ..... some of them have it, some of them don't. It was common enough and an easily workable mechanism.
