This is my first posting on my account.
I have always loved the reel to reel decks since I was a kid and my dad had his Ampex and Wollensak. I am sad to see tape fading away, with only vintage equipment now available, it makes this format available to only those who can afford to service the machines. Parts and even tape itself is hard to find, even on ebay where just about anything legal to sell can be found.
When I was in the service, I was always testing and servicing the old IBM 9 track tape drives just because they were fun to watch. The old tape operating systems were really a mechanical masterpiece. I wish I could get a couple of those.
I have really enjoyed a few of the postings on youtube, where some of the two inch and even digital decks have made an apperance. I wish the guys who post the videos would get a tripod, but hey, thanks anyway.
My favorite deck has got to be the Teac X-1000/2000r series. A workhorse that is serviceable, looks great, and best of all performs. These are on ebay so much they practicaly have their own catagory. I don't know how many were made, but it's nice to know that if you need a part, you can get a junk deck from ebay and salvage one.
To Deslab, thank you for founding the site. I have seen some of your youtube videos and they are great, the best Teac footage I've seen. To answer your question Douglas787 comes from Douglas, which is my name, and 787 which is my favorite Boeing aircraft. It's been my screen name for a few years so I just use it when I'm allowed.
