I try to pickup good quality Walkman's whenever I find them, be it original Sony, or Aiwa made some superb models (TA423 that auto-reversed). I just picked up a Sony WM-F2015 at the thrift today in great shape. AM/FM. Sony was the rock standard, and they made the grail model (WM-D6C) that vinyldavid lusts after (hope I got that right).
Any other Walkman-style collectors out there?

I'm not a collector, but I have 2 Sony Walkmans & 1 Awai. I think they're great, always preferred them to portable CD players, which I always found too cumbersome & delicate. The size of the Walkman is perfect, hand-held, so maybe that's why I like it better....plus, it's analog. Now that I have 16 NiMH rechargeable AA batteries, the Walkman might get a bit more use. Won't have to buy batteries anymore!

And I firmly believe they produce a better sound, with a well-dubbed tape (from a good source, like an LP, from a good tt & phono stage) than any portable CD player I have ever heard. I did post some pictures of my Walkmans in another post - the portable player post from last week.
Cheers!

Never really collected them per se, but use the Walkman Pro when I'm travelling. I have it hooked up to a LaRocco headphone amp and Grado 'phones - this is a serious piece of kit.
Not sure if Sony manufacture them any longer, if so a pity really, because it is probably/arguably the finest portable cassette available. They appear from time to time on Ebay and are well worth seeking out.

I just picked this up yesterday at goodwill, but the two belts are very stiff. I am not sure where to find replacements.

That's a sweet looking unit. Sony Product Support may carry belts still or you may try some of the electronics houses like MCM. I know they sell generic belts and belt kits especially for Walkman-type players that should work.

I have an older Sony and new Panasonic walkman. Last week I grabbed six cassettes and the Panasonic for a long train journey, but the passengers' mobil phones interfered with the walkman, so I finally gave up on listening.

I just picked up a WM-2, the basic almost-original Walkman. No AM/FM, or thrills. Just tape. Gotta clean it up and test it and I'll post pics.
