Hi
I bought a Thomson dk 52 recorder and I wonder what is the bandwith of a microcassette.
Do someone knows it ?
This recorder has two speends, at 2.4 and 1.2 cm/s

nobody ?
websites says : 20 to ...
3500
3600
4000
5800
6000
6050
6300 Hz
I've done a test and it ended up to 7600 Hz. I didn't test the microphone but only the tape itself. I plugged it to the computer and use a frequency generator and a spectrograph. But yes above 6000 the sound that good.
It was tested at 2.4cm/s speed *reelspin*

hifi on microcassette was a rare novelty. probably why you are getting little response.

I believe one of JVC micro cassette decks got up to 12,000hz with metal tape,I will need to look at that catalog I have again to confirm that. Rob

I believe that the stereo recording is good. Of course the higher speed (2.4 cm/s) has more brighter sound compared to the lower speed (1.2 cm/s). My calculations would be that tape speed is the equivalent to bit rate for digital, although I know that they are both different but it is an approximate.

ive always kinda wondered about that myself. i think for a brief moment they even may have made a home stereo component for a microcassette.

I was in PAYETTE, ID today and saw a three microcassette deck dubbing setup in the thrift store! I forgot the price and I don't know the actual purpose (business, I'd bet) but I think it was under $30 by a bit.
