Lady A, what is your beef with Valve amps? I reckon it's a big call calling them stupid.

If you close your eyes and let yourself be mesmerised!! There is a very good reason my Fav. is the old Pilot console. Of course it's wrapped in Beautiful Wood helps alot! The sound is unlike anything else, It's 50yrs old, and still makes me weep. Try one, you'll be shocked! Sometimes you have to close your eyes to open them *eyepop*

Lady A, have you ever heard a tube amp?

And does this give you that unfinished vibe?

Not yet!

However, I am gonna get a solid state rectifier and drop that in, because the rectifier blew. If that works, I'll use it as-is.....

I'll also replace the main caps. Just gotta find the $ to do it.... Ihave none that i can spare now.

PLEASE, i'm quite satisfied with my unholy, unlistenable solid-state BPC!! i don't want to ever hear anything that might disrupt my round satisfaction with my system's sound!! that's exactly why i haven't demoed the multi-thousand dollar super receivers like the $5000 YAMAHA RX-Z9 i had a chance to audition last time i was at HOME VIDEO LIBRARY in portland a couple years back...*no*

Lady A, I love my Sony's sound, and I also love the sound of the Eico.....they're both great in their own ways.

you should take a listen to some stuff that you have never heard before, instead of just assuming that what you have is great. Only then can you make a decision as to what is good and what isn't. Not saying that your stuff is bad-far from it-just that you should hear other things in order to know what's out there, and what you're missing on.

Interesting little amp. May be the only Pain-In-The-Ear amp I'd ever want to own.

(I must admit I do have a Pain-In-The-Ear bpc receiver in the garage gathering dust that the brother-in-law gave me instead of throwing out)

Mac 240 is one of the sweetest amp to own. The last mint I saw on Ebay sold for close to or over 5000.00. Did I say that fisher made some nice amps too. Now Lady A look at an ARC tube gear you will change your mind rapidly and if you hear one you will melt. The closest you can get to tube sound without having to used tube gear is Mcintosh.

nope. but i did have one of those RS build a radio/etc. kits that my grandma got me one b-day. i spent three hours "following" the instructions, piecing it together. then, i try it out: ...zip. so, instead of looking it over and figuring out where i made my mistake, i lose my temper and throw it up against the wall!!!! *bang* anyway, a lesson learned...
