Hi all,
I've been so busy with work lately that I haven't been on here for quite a while. Anyhow, my cabinet-maker friend made some custom piano black endcaps for my "new" Technics 1510 deck that I bought a few months ago (love it!!!). I thought I would share in case anyone else needs/wants them made.

He also can make them for the Otari 5050 series if anyone is interested (which I've posted before). Any wood veneer or color you want, he has the schematic(s) so let me know! The prices are very reasonable.

That's a beautiful case there Joel. Ya think one could be made to fit a Teac X-2000R as well? I'd sure love to have one. If the price was reasonable of course. If he could, I could probably draw up a diagram with the dims.

But I just kept coming back to that highly unique and unorthodox headstack and transport setup for that Technics.

Do I see a new addition to the Des-Lab in the future?

Joel: Nice lookin sidepanels! They compliment the deck very well. *reelspin*

Really beautiful!!!! congratulations, both (deck and panels) are really cool.
Reasonable is the same than affordable? ;) hehe

PS: The Technics transport was originally invented, I think, by 3M (Click (http://www.matrixhifi.com/r2r/imagenes/doors3.jpg))

I think Technics kind-of "stole" it from 3M decks headbridge layout.

But it sure looks cool.

My Father is an auto guy and when he 1st saw the headstack he said, "cool....just like a drilled rotor!!!!"

From The Tape Project site, a quote----- if you will:

They are attractive looking machines, they offer the versatility of both 1/4 track and 1/2 track playback heads and three tape speeds, and most importantly they have what we feel is a superior tape transport path, the isolated loop. The isolated loop is an evolution of a design first developed in the 60's by 3M. The concept revolves around the idea that the tape is completely isolated from the negative influences of as many of the rotating and fixed elements in the tape drive as possible as it passes over the heads. The RS1500 uses a servo reel control system combined with dual pinch rollers on a single capstan to maintain constant tension on the tape. This results in very stable, low flutter playback.

So yes, we have the 3M tie-in with the isolated loop.

Des----I have a X-1000R and I'm sure the case is the same as the 2000R? Mine has an INCREDIBLE near mint condition deep rosewood case and it arrived so perfect that I haven't had the need to replace it. BUT----

If you want to measure out your X-2000 case then my guy can make it. And if you do measure it out then I may have him make two--one for me and you.

And yes----it is affordable along with reasonable. His name is Brian King and he actually does loudspeaker cabinets for a US loudspeaker manufacturer. Just do a search on his name and you will see all sorts of stuff pop up on him in the DIY speaker community. On top of that, he made THESE incredible loudspeakers for me (see below link). My review on the tweeters I used in them was just posted on Hiquphon's web-site. So you are not dealing with amateur-hour with him. PM me and I can get you in contact with him and he can get you the pricing:

Thanks all!! Much appreciated.

Here is a better link to my loudspeaker/tweeter review so you can see a pic on the manufacturers web site:
