My favorite deck has developed a problem!
It plays the MD that was left inside, but refuses to eject it!
Anyone having similar issues?
Any good pointers on how to overcome this?
Thanks!

If it is a model with the power stand-by feature, have you tried unplugging the power cord for 30 seconds, then replugging it back in and see if the MD will eject?

Power off your deck and power on it again keeping AMS or Eject button pressed... Maybe one of these will work.
It seem that my own JA555ES has a similar problem but I could not test it as the deck is still in a repair shop in France since 5 months, and me in Vietnam. If you still have problem and do not find a solution here, go to Sony Insiders Minidisc forum as there are a lot of MD deck owners there.

I've seen the record head bend and jam locking the MD in the holder. If you open the top, the holder will look like a complete maze. Look for a finger that is ober the MD's metal shutter. Is it up and out of the way? Or is it down and kinked?

Well, i unplugged it from power for 10 min, powered on by hitting eject or AMS
but it is jammed in!
It plays, searches fine and all but it keeps the md for itself!
I have to open it and inspect!

Try the eject on the remote incase the one on the machine as gone astray, also turn off the machine and set the timer switch to play and see if it will let you eject then...

Chances are it a mechanical issue ..........reelspin*

It surely accepts the input from the on board buttons as it makes mechanical noises trying to comply ... without making it!
Is there a belt inside the mechanism?
Could be a loose belt (if i was lucky!).

Hi Sound,
Last time I was given a MD from a radio station down in Louisiana where there is a Prison, they have their own radio station that was supported by some Church organization. Well in this MD there was under the MD a very small belt the size of a dime. This was replaced and then the unit worked well after that- try and look at all angles and see if there is such a thing.
I bought mine from a seal supplier as no one had belts so small. I took the mechanism out of the deck to clear the transport and then found the problem. Maybe your was like this one.

Thanks!
I will try to find the service manual.
This thing weighs 16 kilos and has the mechanism sealed in it's own metal
compartment...It's not easy to take it appart!
Maybe in the exploded views i can locate the source of the problem...
I will keep you posted!
