How can Nakamichi have a button called "Subsonic MPX"?
Sub means under.
MPX is the pilot tone from FM broadcasting (sorry for my language here) at 19kHz.
Unwanted and very unwanted when you make a recording with double ended NR systems.
This is why a lot of tuners have built in MPX filter, limited Frequency responce at 15 kHz and many cassette decks also have this filter.
But it is NOT a sub filter.
Nakamichi..................tsk tsk tsk
I have MPX filter in all three of my cassette decks and I have double MPX filtering in my tuner, which is not limited at 15 kHz (although the FM broadcasting probably is limited)

You're right, Dolph, it's misleading. This is a langauge problem which Nak usually did not fall foul of. What was meant was "inaudible", and should not have read "subsonic". The MPX pilot carrier cannot be heard of course, but as you state, can play havoc with the workings of Dolby, and in non-HX Pro equipped decks, with bias signal stability.

Old post, but I had to make a comment. Jeez, LOOK a tthe picture. There are TWO buttons One marked subsonic (rumble filter) the OTHER mpx. I sure hope you all were joking in your above post...

The RX-303 is a 2 head version wih the same transport as the 505. Nak added the subsonic button because it has extended bass response, which caused trouble in Dolby C when using a rumbly (is that a word?) turntable.
